What Ink Matches A Green Sheaffer?

Hello!

I recently purchased a vintage green Sheaffer Imperial. I want to have a nice well behaved green ink to match it. Nothing bright or flashy and has a vintage look to it. Something safe to use in vintage pens too. Any recommendations?

I just cleaned a Sheaffer Snorkle (Autograph) yesterday in which I had used J Herbin VERT EMPIRE for the last several years. It worked well & matched well enough to suit me.

Try a sample of Diamine Sherwood Green. I did a comparison of about 15 greens a couple years ago and it has been in steady use ever since, in a variety of pens, with no issues.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I just bought another pen. A peacock blue Sheaffer Admiral Snorkel. What inks would match this?

I lean/default toward some form of blue-black in vintage pens but several have favorites of other colors.

I might consider a mix of green and blue for a teal for your green pen. Either Sheaffer or Waterman are good safe inks for vintage. For the peacock blue Sheaffer, you could go on a hunt for the vintage peacock blue ink or pick the lighter blue in Sheaffer or Waterman. My peacock blue snorkel is very happy with the purple blue blend called Blurple. Do a search for 2008? Info on that. My blend is more blue than 50-50. Nice you can mix to mood and the snorkel does a wonderful job of sucking up your current small mix.

I'll be boring, but I'll say - try Graf von Faber Castel Moss Green.

And for the peacock blue one... Maybe Sailor Yama-Dori?

I have found this inks interesting and really well behaved.

If it is peacock blue, try Sheaffer turquoise ink.

The Sheaffer turquoise ink has been reported to be similar to the old Sheaffer Peacock Blue ink.

Sheaffer Peacock blue has been long out of production, which is why I recommend their Turquoise.

You can also try Sheaffer Green ... it's a turquoisish green!

Yes very true, though one can get lucky sometimes.

I meant that you can't just go and order one from your favorite ink dealer.

It is available on eBay. I've seen bottles show up every so often.

What about Pelikan Turquoise?

I second J. Herbin Vert Empire (feels so good in my 1940s Balance). For a Peacock Blue Sheaffer, I can recommend Diamine Havasu Turquoise or Diamine Florida Blue if you like a slightly darker shade.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
