Kwz Azure 5

This is also quite a fine ink. I've heard that it's a very good Parker Penman Sapphire replacement, but I've never seen PPS in person and I cannot speak to the resemblance.

It, however, is a beautiful blue ink. It looks almost violet in the bottle and while it dries, but I assure that this is blue. Occasionally, it sheens a magenta like many blue inks do. It's not water resistant. It does bleed on the worst of the papers, but never feathers.

Staples Bagasse paper; this is quite a dry nib. I promise that the rest of the pictures are better.

Nice review. Good colour effects here. I have it, use it, love it but wouldn't say it is a replacement, even a reminder of PPS. But no problem. Main thing is, it is available today and that at a good price.

All the better! Still, less dough than what you need to cough out for a pinch of PPS!

Ah! Me thinks I have a friend who'd like this ink. Leans away enough from cyan, PPS leans, in my opinion, much more towards cyan.

KWZ Ink Azure #5 is what I hoped Nagasawa Kobe Ur Lapis would look like.

Keep them reviews comin'!

With an Herbin glass dip pen on Rhodia 90, I see it like this:

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/peli46/Azure5_and_PPS_1.jpg

In comparison, I find that the Azure 5 has about the same wetness and lubricity as the PPS does, maybe somewhat less wet, but more saturated. At the same time, the Azure is in any case darker and also has IMO more of a red touch than the very subtle hunch of green touch for which the PPS is known to appeal. Also -- at last with this pen on this paper -- the Azure 5 here bleeds less than the PPS does.

@bioluminescentsquid thank you for a nice review!!! :))

I remember we accidentaly noticed the similarity of Azure #5 and PPS during the meeting with Visvamitra and viewing his journal of reviews, so then he also posted the comparison ;)

Thanks, Agnieszka, I just re-looked at that site. The two inks on my paper do have similarities -- all the more to Konrad's wonderful work. But I still wouldn't really call them all that identical. But anything that is a replacement for PPS can always be cherished as a true gem these days.

Not to beat a dead horse (or a dead dog??.. not sure how the english saying goes)... ;) ..No one really call it "identical". Is just very similar. :)

We all know that even the same ink (same color/brand) is not even identical between batches. If you add the differences introduced by paper, pen, flow, nib... We know that even the same ink from the same bottle might look vastly different on different pens/paper.

So for the time being, is safe to assume that Azure #5 is one of the closest look-alike to PPS. (not counting custom ink mixes)

Again here, you can see the similar sheen between Steel Blue, Tolstoy and PPS.

Neat, the sheen you have amazed us with is, yes, gorgeous. I even see some sheen on the original paper for the scan I made above of both the Azure #5 and the PPS (when held up advantageously under the right lighting). There, too, there is a good (nice?, close?, neat?, great?) similarity between the PPS and that above-shown Azure #5... that beautiful reddish halo at the very edges of the writing. Still, the Azure #5 is darker and less green, to me... but I do love it. One of my favourite blues, I must say. Never was all that hot about PPS. "TG" says

Looks more like DeA's than D's. Your review of one week ago shows that much sheen... if not even more... IMO D's is greener..........

Well this has convinced me to acquire more KWZ inks.

And I'm sad that I was never able to get a bottle of the MB Tolstoy.

AndyYNWA, I think that's the DeAtramentis Steel Blue.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
