Got A Pen I Didn't Win

So I was watching a MB BP 8486 Starwalker on eBay. The ad said the pen was a Midnight Black and the book stamped from the Montblanc Boutique in NY did say 105657. I emailed the seller twice before bidding asking were they sure it wasn't the platinum 8486 as the pictures didn't look midnight black. Twice he said it was the midnight black..

So I won the pen and paid $183. I got it today and it is clearly a Platinum 8486. I called MB in Dallas and gave the young lady the Serial No. and she advised it is a MB Starwalker 8486 Platinum. She said the book must have been filled out incorrectly.

The pics are below, I believe it is legit and the numbers match.

On my other 2 Starwalkers under the clip is a bit different. This one says "Made in Germany", maybe it is different since it is from 2014.

Your thoughts please....

** The last picture shows my one I bought from a MB Boutique in Tyson's Corner, VA (bottom) and the one off eBay (top).

Nobody? Any thoughts.... Legit???

I spoke to the seller and he said he was unaware and just put what the booklet said on the ad. He said to keep the 8486 for the price I bought it. Even after telling him about the difference he said he still can't tell the difference form the MB website photos. It is very subtle.

Sorry, I've got not experience with Starwalkers. if the emblem is just as clear as the one you already have in all angles it should point to ok, that's the part you almost always notice with fakes.

How do the refills look? The length difference is weird

I think that's due to the angle of the camera

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
