Two Parker Centennials.

I got the red centennial one a few days ago, and the greenwich edition the day after, i found both in some local adds.

The last pic shows them next to "the real Thing" a duofold senior from the twenties (i think).

I specially like the greenwich edition, the chasing gives a good grip, and also looks very good (in my eyes) but they are both well made, well balanced and nice to write with.

The red has a "Q" date code, and the black one has "IIIN" date code.

Duofold Greenwich looks fantastic! Texture seems to be the same as on the lovely "P75 Fougère".

The red one always is nice, IMO. Congratulations!

Thank you very much, yes it looks a little like it.

I wonder which year the "Q" date code indicates.

You`re welcome.

Somewhere there are lists showing the meaning of those codes, you may google a little bit. Good luck!

Red Duofold with narrow and white cap bands was produced between1989 and 1996, AFAIK.

Does this help?

...narrow and wide cap bands... of course, sorry.

Yes it does, i believe it´s from 1990 then.

And thanks again. I took a look again, really very nice, both. Enjoy.

Thanks, i did but as far as i could see there were 2 years with the "Q" code, but i will dig som more.

It's probably for the 4th quarter of 2000 as the Greenwich came out in 1999.

I've always thought the Greenwich is one of the nicest modern Parkers and the box it came with is very elegant as well.

The Q date code is on the red one and not on the Greenwich. Plus as I remember the double rings came on the early pens. So the red one is probably from 4th quarter, 1990 and not 2000. And the IIIN on the Greenwhich is 1st quarter, 1999.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
