An Ink To Match A Flower Color

truthpil

Recommended Posts

Greetings Folks,

I'm trying to find an ink that matches the color of the flowers on my mother-in-law's plant (it's a Thanksgiving Cactus).

Having a bunch of ink samples sent to my location is cost prohibitive so I need to find the closest ink and commit to a bottle.

Attached are a couple pictures of the flowers and one that I used MS Paint to check the color with.

I'm thinking possibly something around Herbin Rose Cyclamen, Noodler's Sha's Rose or Qin Shi Huang might work, but I don't have them to check.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Shah's Rose and Qin Shi Huang are both too red. I don't have Rose Cyclamen, but that looks promising; you might have a peek at J Herbin Rose Tendresse -- it's a pink that leans a little lavender.

Bougainvillea, Solferino, Cactus Friut eel, Saguaro Wine.

Check out the pink thread in my signature. I can't add the links from my phone but all of those should have images posted.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

You can order from Tekken the exact color...

Try typing the HEX code #F900FB on the link below... (on the color box dropdown, type the hex code, press enter)

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies! Among these options I'm sure there is the right color match.

Inkstainedruth, thanks for the info about the Noodler's inks. It's hard to see how red they are in some of the swab photos online.

Reminds me of Diamine Bougainvillea.

Lgsoltek, thanks for tipping me off to this ink. After much staring at the different options, this ink does look exactly like the color I'm looking for.

Do you know if it's possible to order this in China, or does it have to be shipped from the UK?

How nice to have a fellow FPNer in the same country! I'm in a somewhat rural area though so it's harder to get good inks.

Amberleadavis, those colors are all very similar and made for good comparison. Bougainvillea and Solferino seem closest to the color I'm looking for. The pink thread was also great help for comparing!

Wow, someone actually does color matching?! And for so cheap!

What a great option. Thanks, Cyber6!!

R&K Solferino is easy to get from Taobao. As for Diamine Bougainvillea, you may find the whole flower set from Taobao, but I suspect it would be difficult to get a separate bottle of it. Anyway you can order a 30ml plastic bottle directly from Diamine. The shipping fee is rather reasonable.

Thanks. I just discovered that Cultpens has reasonable registered international priority shipping from the UK (flat rate 10GBP for up to 2kg) and offers a ton of inks I was previously unable to get, including individual bottles from the Diamine Flower and Music sets.

i vote have it made by tekker.

cyber6 has done all the leg work for you so it would be easy to order.

I'm very tempted to. The reasons I hesitate are (1) 100ml is A LOT of ink for a color that is too bright for daily use, and (2) someone in the States would have to ship it to me in China and the shipping cost would probably be similar to that of the ink itself.

Still considering it though.

Me too. They don't ship overseas so that's a problem for me. I'd really like to try some custom colour's from them. I wonder if I can find a forwarding service that accepts liquid. Edited by Lgsoltek

  • 1 month later...

Well, my first haul of goodies from Cultpens arrived today (the originally rectangular box was almost round by the time I got it but everything inside was intact). Among the treasures was a 30ml bottle of Diamine Bougainvillea. It ended up not having enough red in it to perfectly match the flower, but it is a beautiful ink nonetheless and won a spot in my rotation for grading assignments. It looks like I'll end up going with Tekker to get a perfect match, but that will have to wait until I can get things from the US or they can ship overseas.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
