I can't believe this, I had given up all idea that this en actually existed anywhere but on the Lady Sheaffer leaflet.

Where did it come from?

It was purchased online in Canada by its UK owner

I suppose it would be bad form to ask how much it went for?

I always thought the Matelasse had a ring of Brilliants?

I didn't get the purchase price, but will ask the question. I did notice it was minus the brilliants that are shown in the drawing, so will ask if they can see any evidence of them being removed.

Well, it's very pretty.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

HERE IS WHAT THE OWNER REPLIED

The pen is a matt/brushed sort of gold, with the etching of what seem to be leaves on a stalk. The etching is shiny gold and the stalks and outer edge of the leaves have a close dotted line. There is no sign of there having been a ring of brilliants although I see there are some on the Pen World Ad. My grip is white.

I bought it from someone in Sweden in April 2010 and paid £140. It was advertised as ‘Might be the Lady Sheaffer Skripsert Model CX called Matelasse’. Think it probably was on eBay, sorry I said it was from Canada, that was something else. The leaves also have very fine etching lines when I looked with a magnifying glass.

Interesting.

I wonder if this is the pen being discussed in this old thread?

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/149566-might-this-be-the-fabled-matelasse/

The date of the thread matches the timing of the the purchase.

Yes that looks to be the case. The owner of the pen will hopefully be bringing it along to the Lichfield Pen Show on the 19th of June, so if anyone attending would like to take a look at the pen, at some part of the day it should be available to view at my table. Will update this thread closer to the show.

Cheers Gary.

Looks interesting.

By the way, I am looking for a scan of the Jul/Aug 1994 Pen Wotld Magazine article about Sheaffer Lady line. Does anyone have it and could share? Not just the pics but the article text too. Thank you in advance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
