Hello From Captain Rollerball

Hi FPN!

How do you do?

I have a very wide interest in fountain pens, but my wallet fits more for rollerballs, hence my name. Your blogs have always found the right answer for me. For example, reviews! I then thought " Hey, why not make a FPN account?" I'm so happy I signed up, and I absolutely love the idea of pen collectors or pen owners to get together and share ideas! I look forward to hear what you have to say to my questions I'm already stacking up on

Sincerely

CaptainRollerball.

We will take you to the light! There are some very inexpensive Chinese fountain pens on the market. Many are good writers, the trick is knowing which ones are good.

This should help you

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/278261-best-inexpensive-chinese-pens/?hl=+best%20+chinese%20+pens

Once you become interested in a model you'll find many reviews here to look at. My favorite Chinese pens are Kaigelu 316, Jinhao 159, and Jinhao x450. I happen to like broad nibs and most Chinese pens come with fine/medium nibs. But, it is very easy to change the nib to the width of your choice.

Have fun!

Welcome to FPN. If you take a look around, you'll see many forum posts about people asking for pens at a low price range. You'll soon find many options that exceed your rollerball expectations. And don't save up your questions - fire away in the forums, and you'll find no shortage of opinions!

Welcome !

Rollerball is an exciting sport. I wish I had learned to skate, as a child.

Which fountain pen do you use for daily writing ?

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.

Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
