What Sheaffer Pen Is This?

What Sheaffer Pen is this? Is something wrong with the filler unit? It is on offer for sale on a local auction site and I am inclined to buy it but can't figure out what model is it and what kind of filler it has?

Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sheaffer PFM III. Filler system is a snorkel.

Thank you jar. But isn't something wrong with the filler? It looks as if though the filler is altered to some kind of squeeze converter. Or am I wrong?

No way to really tell except ask the seller but it looks like a non-standard sac protector to me.

Yes , jar. I asked the seller and he says the blind cap doesn't open and is not functional. I am really confused.

Ah, then it is very likely that what you see is some home modification. I'd pass at any price.

I'd buy it and invest some money in restoration, if the price is right--say $100 below average price for a PFM III. You never know for sure, but it looks to me like the pen could be restored. The news that the blind cap doesn't open though is ominous--hate to think someone might have glued it closed.

The bottom of the sac protector has been cut off and a squeeze converter fitted in its place, which isn't really a problem. The bottom of the sac protector isn't really needed in a Snorkel system.

Yes, Robert111. That seems to be the case. The pen is offered though for Rs.4000.00 ($40 approx) only.

There are two other pens offered for the same price.

I would be more tempted by the PFM III if I knew the blind cap wasn't glued closed.

Edit to add: Is the nib okay? The photo of the nib makes me a little suspicious of the tipping.

Looks like a strange wave in the nib as well.

The nib is ok as a pen lover friend of mine (in Karachi - where the seller is) has personally inspected the pen(s) for me.

Restored PFM III's in very good condition usually sell for between $200-$300. The cap alone is probably worth the $40. I would say buy it. Even if it can't be restored, the parts have value.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
