Is Mine Real?

I am concerned that the MB I inherited from a family member isn't the genuine article, unbeknownst to them. It is the same size and weight as my 90th Anniversary Classique The center band on the cap has "Mont Blanc meisterstuck" in block letters then "pix" in script. The nib is two-toned but the 1 is missing in front of the 4 for the karat weight. Also there is an M then some space between Blanc. The ring with the clip has the serial no.IR 2611793 and Germany on it. There is also a script PIX on the backside of the clip. I have no reason to think this is a fake as it was gifted to my relative in good faith from an old friend. Just these differences worry me. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I've never posted any pictures. Not sure how. I, too, thought that only having "4K" on the nib was odd. I looked at it through a 20x loupe.

Thanks for the prompt response.

If Mont and Blanc are spelled separately, then it's a fake. The inscription on the center band should read Montblanc.

The word would be " MEISTERSTüCK " . Note the letter " U " will be slightly shorter than the other letters, with the two dots (called an "umlaut") making up the difference in height. I believe that there is a site, where you can verify the serial number. Serial numbers are unique to each pen

So far,so good. The U in Meisterstuck is shorter and has the umlaut over it. MONTBLANC is one word. Any idea what the URL for the sreial number site would be? I contacted the fellow that originally gave my relative the pen and he said he bought it on-line which scares me. He isn't a pen person so wouldn't be able to tell any difference.

4K nib, maybe it's ready for the new video format. Eh eh eh.

Jokes aside, you should post some pictures, just describing won't let you or us be 100% sure.

EDIT: I don't think there's any website for the serial numbers, at least for the regular Meisterstuck.

I put the nib under my electronic microscope that connects to my PC and the missing marking were there all the time, my 70 year-old eyes just couldn't make them out even with the 20x loupe I was using. I did some othere tests like shining a light through the body etc and I feel confident that this is s real MB. Thanks for putting up with a paranoid old fool.

There's something about this pen that raises doubts in my mind. Maybe the picture of the nib could be better, but the feed in the penultimate picture looks exactly like the one in my known fake.

Did your pen come with a box and warranty certificate? And did it come with a converter? Do you have pictures of those? What is the serial number on the clip band? This pen should definitely have one. Also is Germany printed on the clip band?

When you look at both sides of your nib tines, (front and back) can you see clear silver metal coloured coatings on the gold metal at the tips of the tines?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
