Xfountainpens : Exp. 02/04/16

X fountain sales/promos offer really good value on whatever item(s) are being promoted.

The downside is that xfountain doesn't seem to be able to anticipate and staff up a little to handle the increased volume..

The end result is slow processing to shipment out the door...

Anyone know what the antique colors match in the regular Diamine inks? Some of them look quite interesting.

Hello Ruth,

The best comparisons I have found are at the following links:

lists of best guesses of the exact matches here

The ones that start with "antique" in the name are blends of other Diamine inks so do not match to any specific Diamine colour

And as another poster noted, the small 99 cent sample bottles make it low risk to try any number of them.

I'd be delighted if anyone who has the "Antique" inks would compare them to similar Diamine inks and photograph the results: especially Antique Yankee (esp vs Midnight and Regency), Antique Oxford (vs Majestic) and Antique Orchid...

Islandink, that was really interesting to see the comparison scans. And the "best guess" lists are useful (I had seen the FPN link a few years ago).

I was specifically interested in the "Antique" line (and also maybe inks that Diamine released since those lists were put together). But if they Antique inks are blends, that doesn't necessarily help me.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

During the last xfountains.com sale I bought 5 x 25ml bottles of Chesterfield ink for $20. Very happy with my purchase. Can't wait for the next sale.

That is what I was told by phone...but this is interesting regarding the "antique" blues

Agree--I would love a comparison with all the similar colours!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
