Onoto - New Designs

I have recently been in touch with James Boddy who sent me the following images suggesting they be posted on FPN. He mentions new pens forthcoming in the magna classic and churchill pinstripe range amongst others.

I have gone for a black and silver magna classic which should keep me busy for many years to come. The Pickwick and Churchill pinstripe were tempting but better to spend the extra on accessories I believe.

I adore the new pearlescent materials, and would like to congratulate Onoto in having the nerve to try new colours. And the colours they have chosen are amazing. I am fortunate in one way - being utterly skint for new pens I don't have to worry about which one to get.

I always wanted to know how the pinstripe pen blanks were created, great to see.

Regards,

Richard

Nothing very interesting here. The silver models remind me a bit of the Krone historical collection.

The resin pens are nice but too short in my view - difficult to use unposted.

Goodness me. How big are your hands? Must be enormous.

My hands require XL gloves, and the Magna Classic size is good for me unposted with about 12mm/1/2" of barrel overhanging the point at which the barrel rests on the flesh between thumb & forefinger. The only pen I own that I absolutely have to post is the Parker 17 Lady, which at 107mm long uncapped really is a bit short. I look at their pages on several of those pens only to find "This Edition Is Now SOLD OUT". So what is the point in this little bit of advertising?

Interesting. I could go for one of the resin pens but who is making these? Is this a restart of the old Onoto brand/factory or is it somehow related to Bespoke British Pens? Just curious.

There is still a Chuzzlewit pretty high on my list ;-)

Onoto pens are still produced by the Onoto Pen Company which has been producing excellent pens since 2005.

As for the Chuzzlewit pen, in my opinion it is the best looking of the Dickens range

None of the new pens posted by ahw01 have been shown on the Onoto website yet so they are certainly not shown as SOLD OUT!

The new Onoto colours shown are gorgeous and I ordered mine several weeks back 😎

Not sure I can agree: Look above at the "burnt orange" and "mandarin yellow", then go here:

I suspect while the ones you quote are similar colours to existing sold out LE editions, they will not be sold as an extension to the sold out edition, but as a new colour variant with its own edition.

As david6 said, these colours have not yet been put up on Onoto's web site.

Regards,

Richard.

I can see part of your point. Still, it is the *same* colours, not a "colour variant".

The links supplied by FriendAmos are to two original colours which have been sold out for a long time. From the look of it there are going to be a range of new colours and just two that look the same as some old sold out colours. So I go along with the description that there are a range of colours that haven't been advertised yet!

Back to useful comments. I am hoping that this is the start a regular output of new offerings.

Yes, we should have some useful comments.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
