Custom Leather Cheap (!) Triple Brown Pen Pouch

Hello everybody

After an endless search (which I loved) looking for 'the' perfect pen pouch, I finaly bought one.
So here's my review.

Allmost all pen pouches I could find on the internet had flaws (Aston pouches were too expensive, chinese leather pouches from ebay had good-prices but were 'bad' quality,...)
Then I found a company called 'Lavedo Custom Leather' in Germany.
If you're intressed, their site is in German and Dutch. You could try to use Google Chrome which translates sites to any language.

The pouch I found (http://www.lavedo-custom-leather.de/epages/63891166.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63891166/Products/353) ,has beside it's gorgeous 'look' ,a very very intresting price.
Including the transportation costs to Belgium it costs around 16 euros, which is less than 18 dollars. Which is awesome!

Another cool feature about the company is that they can 'engrave' your name, logo,initials,... on the pouch for another 7,5 euros (a little bit above 8 dollar).

Dhaenens is my last name :)

All you have to do is send an email to hem, saying you want an engraving.

They reply with the most used fonts. If you descided which font and which text you want, they email you a test print.

This is my engraving:

The whole pouch including my name ingraved in it and transportation costs, costed me 23,5 euros (25,6 dollars)

The only downside is that the 3 compartments are quite thin.

Some pens need to be squized out like I do in this picture.

And I mean it's realy realy thight.

A lot of my pens won't fit in or will get stuck.

The first compartment is even so thight that no pen will fit in, so I place a pencil in it.

The pouch even comes with a quite nice, grey cardboard box with the text of your pouch on it, in golden letters:

Also they included a nice little extra :

I'm realy realy happy with this pouch, its quality and it's price! 23 euros with custom engraving, a leather key ring, and shipping costs :)

Thanks for the review. Seems incredibly inexpensive for such a nice looking product. Very impressed. Pity re size of slots. They seem focussed on customer service so it may be a good idea to email them and let them know.

That looks really nice; thanks for taking the time to review. What a shame that the slot sizes are more Bic-sized than FP. Not sure if you'd want to risk it with one of these, but with a cheaper Indian-made two slot case I successfully enlarged the slots by wetting the leather and then working in a length of wooden dowel of the required diameter and letting it dry naturally around that. The natural stretchiness of leather can be a real help sometimes!

After 3 days of use I thought of cutting 1 line of threads, so that I have 2 compartments left. 1 'small' compartment and 1 'big' compartment.

But before cutting, I will try your technique first! Thanks for the answer.

How wet did the leather get before you worked on it? Fully saturated or just a little bit wet?

Damp rather than dripping. If I remember correctly I put a damp cloth over the pocket for, I dunno, 15 minutes or so? It probably depends on the leather, thickness and so forth, but you do need to give it time to soak in. I'm certainly no expert, so proceed at your own risk.

Hello there,

First of all, I like the pen pouch (and another version on the Lavedo website even more), but indeed it doesn't help too much if it is too tight for fountain pens. So I took a short route and asked whether they have pouches with wider pockets as well. There is one standard product (#305) that would allow larger pens, but has only room for one.

But: it is also possible to have your own preferences cast in another version, the drawback is that a minimum order of 50 pieces is required. So there is hope if at least 50 people ask for the same (or other combination). Thought it could be worthwhile sharing this. Not affiliated in any way, just asked and got a prompt reply.

Ik ontken het grote belang van de computer niet, maar vind het van een stuitende domheid om iets wat al millennia zijn belang heeft bewezen daarom overboord te willen gooien (Ann De Craemer)

Nice find. They have a bunch of other pen pouches and pen-related things too. Here's a link to the page:

They have some neat looking leather covered pen "coffins" too. I wish they had an English language option for their site. But Google (mis)translate is available...

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I went to the site and they have some beautiful products so I decided to register, but in doing so, under country there was no option for the U.S. Am I right in thinking they do not ship to the United States? I wrote them but haven't heard back yet.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
