Anyone Got An Unwanted Vp Barrel?

bbs

Recommended Posts

Seeking upper half of Pilot Vanishing Point barrel (as in attached photo) in good condition, black preferably but any colour would do.

My partner's Vanishing Point has suffered grievously over the years, and now the plastic lining (a component of the retraction mechanism) of the top half of the barrel has disintegrated. Nevertheless, he is very attached to the pen and would like to keep it working.

Price negotiable.

Many thanks!

(Mods, please feel free to move to classifieds if more appropriate)

If you send it to Pilot for service, they will take care of you.

Many thanks, but I suspect Pilot would take one look at the much-salvaged pen and decline to deal with it :)

You can purchase just the barrel from various sellers ~20-30$ USD

That's helpful, can you give me some names, please? If they're US-based, though, it may not be worth it. Edited by bbs

Engeika, at his webpage, frequently lists VP parts under Pilot>Fountain Pen Parts

Many thanks!

I was about to mention the same - Engeika had a yellow/black combination there at one point, a fountain pen ode to the bumblebee!

Ha, I'd like that; he doesn't! Anyhow, Engeika is sold out of all parts at the moment :(

I had emailed him about the same product a couple of weeks ago and didn't hear anything back.

If you contact him and get a different answer, please post and let me know!

Hi, finally got round to emailing him, and got a reply after a couple of days, saying he would try to get more in very soon and would let me know. I'll either post here again or PM you when I hear more!

Best wishes, Sue

He answered the same in November. Time is relative.

I confess, I bought a 'bumblebee' (yellow and black) VP body back in late October. I wanted another colour, but they didn't have any - and no ETA on their arrival. I *suspect* the bumblebee is a mash-up (the top of a black pen spliced together with the bottom of a dark yellow pen), but the chrome furniture matches up, and it looks pretty good. I don't think I'd have bought a straight yellow (and all black would have been dull), but I'm glad I went with this option (and seriously, for under US$30, why wouldn't I?!).

Then I bought another VP nib (a black-coated stub, from Anderson Pens, before the price increase came through), and now I have one more nib than body. I can swap them in and out... or I can hope and pray that Engeika *do* find some more bodies to put up on their site. So, here's hoping!

Ah. That's not so reassuring. However, I bought another black VP before Christmas (not from Engeika) which turned up with a misshapen nib. I was really busy last month and didn't get round to returning it, and now my emails to the seller on eBay are not getting through .... So we're going to try to fettle that nib ourselves and cannibalise the barrel. Probably more cost-effective in the long run.

Will still PM if I hear from Engeika though!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
