Just joined the FPN and hoping to meet some more interesting people and perhaps find a few pen pals worldwide. Pen & Ink collection are a bit limited at the moment. Live in the south western bit of Virginia and currently enjoying getting into fountain pens.

Interestingly enough, my last 2 Baoer 388 came in the mail. Problem is: i now have 3 of the exact same pens (Fein-nib) however each holds a different colour: Blau (Reserve pen, for when my daily carry pen is dehydrated.), Grün and Schwarz. I can't for the life of me tell them apart aside from uncapping them and writting.

 

I too have a Jinhao x450: Marbled Schwarz and Grün with a M-nib.

 

These pens are simply a pleasure to write with. Given the prices of them I was afraid they were going to be very choppy at writing. I praise these pens.

A suggestion for this, as I too have multiple 388's with identical appearances, I use a small ring of colored electrical tape cut with a exacto knife on the inside of my 388 when it becomes a issue. other times I'll refill them and just apply a small drop of ink to the nib with a toothpick. thus a simple uncapping and I can say "Oh it's rouge hematite" or "theres the Kon-tiki" Hope it helps. may hae to do the same with my jinhao x450's before long. I'm curious, did you reside somewhere that german was the primary language?

Thanks, I'll certainly check it out. I don't often make it that far north (I'm fairly close to NC myself) but once a year it might be a fun escape and road trip. Thanks again for the welcome.

Hey, the Jinhao x450 nib will flex a bit, if you insist. However, don't demand too much, or you will "spring" the nib. I just did that to my 94¢ x450.

 

A little spilled ink goes a long way to making a mess. I work on a "dollar-store" tray with high sides, especially with the 4.5 ounce bottle.

 

SW Virginia ? As in Tazewell, etc ?

I like the Nib dabbing Idee. It seems a bit easier to impliment. I would like to know, though, is the ring of Electrical Tape on the innerhalb of the Cap or outer?

 

In my household, the primary language is German. My dog speaks German, My Computer, My Facebook profile. Pretty much everything I do is entirely in German.... Well except for this and the few times where I actually need to use englisch. What about yourself? Any additional Languages?

when I discover where my gloves and paper towels went, I will try using a zebra g in a jinhao x450. I'm quite happy with the x450 and the 250. honestly my cheap chinese pens have been a favorite so far. though the Ahab is still in shipping since the one I received for christmas was broken in shipping. The pilot metro is nice, but I still can't come to love it as much as my cheaper pens. Had a Cross Bailey, that turned out to be the worst one so far. flew apart during writing, couldn't post the cap, and it was very fond of leaking after the nib went flying one day. never got past the first ink cartridge, though I do have a converter I'd ordered. may try another one one day but in no hurry.

 

and yeah tazwell is getting closer. I'm actually pretty close to the NC border. kinda funny but within a hour I can be in any of 4 states assuming good speed on interstate.

lately I've gotten picky about it on the finger neck so I put a small ~1mm strip of red tape above the gold band on the cap. that way a simple glance works. another idea I may try is a small red sticker on the finneal of the cap, but haven't gotten to walmart to pick up any small circlets.

In three and a half hours, i can stand in four states all at the same time, only spot in the US you can do this.

Pardon my being so Bold, but around what general area are you in? East valley? Phoenix? I have lived in Arízona for quite some time, but am actually familiar with roughly .0000001% of the state. I drove south to Tombstone, AZ, I drove to Grand Canyon as well as Flagstaff and went hiking in Sedona (once), but I aint never seen an elephant fly... ähm, I mean I have never done the 4 states thing. How ist es? Is it any fun or boring like the monotonous Mr Hand in Ferris Bueller macht blau? Ferris... Ferris...

 

Otherwise I have pretty much been around Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa and Tempe. On occassion South and Central Phoenix.
