HisNibs.com update -- Better Late Than Never!
December 31st, 2015

Greetings all,

http://hisnibs.com/HisNibsHappyNewYear_small.jpg

The ever popular 12 and 48 pen cases http://hisnibs.com/pen_storage.htm finally made it through Customs!

We also received some new additions to two of our most popular pen models, the Jinhao Dreadnaught http://hisnibs.com/dreadnaught.htm and the Crocodile Outre http://hisnibs.com/outre.htm.

Due to rising material costs, some of Lai Yee's pen pouches/rolls http://hisnibs.com/pen_rolls.htm will be going up in price modestly in the new year. We'll hold the current prices through Sunday, January 3 -- so act now if interested!

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers, please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as soon as possible!

They didn't make it in time for you to give someone for Christmas, but now you'll have a place to store all of the pens you received!

Colorful Dreadnaughts!

Unlike Henry Ford's Model T, you can now get the Jinhao Dreadnaught in colors other that black. I've also re-done the Dreadnaught page, so that you can actually read the customer reviews. Here are a few:

"The pen arrived yesterday. It looks great, a bit heavy though. And it writes magnificent, the point really slides over the paper. I also have the original mb149 meisterstück, but i would not know which one of them writes the better. Thanks for the very correct handling and shipping. Kind regards,"
J. V., Belgium

"The Dreadnaught FP arrived today . . . it's perfect! The wide girth, nice center of gravity (even when posted), and smooth-writing medium-to-broad (always my preference!) nib makes it my favorite writing instrument. It's every bit as good-if not even better-as you-know-who. . . I might have to purchase another color to have two in my collection. Definitely a superior pen!"
C. H., Twinsburg, OH

"Hey Norman, What a surprise! I got home from the office and found the Jinhao 159 Black Dreadnaught waiting to be tried out...WOW, I didn't think it would arrive so soon. And it has not disappointed! This is a great pen-by far my biggest in size and the best value...$35 ??? AMAZING!!! It has such a smooth stroke and I am running out of superlatives so I'd better get back to writing. Thanks for bringing this awesome pen to the USA! Best regards."
R. D., Leawood, KS

Crocodile Amethyst Outré

http://hisnibs.com/CrocodileAmethystOutreCapPen_small.jpg

Long a favorite with it's ruby homage to a certain German pen, the new amethyst Outré with it's chrome accents takes this iconic beauty in a new direction!

"Norman, I just received this beautiful pen and wanted to say it is absolutely beautiful and "writes like a dream." I take a lot of notes and it is just perfect in size and weight for notes -- just works like a charm. It works so well, that I'd like to place an order for another one. I especially enjoy your personalized notes and as always, than you so much for all your help!!!"
S. R., Mount Olive, NC

"Well this blows my mind! I had one of the original MB pens exactly like this (minus the top "ruby") and liked the pen but not the filling mechanism. So now I have the same precious resin pen and a sensible filling system!...One thing I do like is that the "ruby" isn't deep red. It actually looks more like a padparadscha sapphire, which I like better!... I'm amazed at the careful workmanship on this, thanks!"
K. S., Omaha, NE

"Hi Norm - I've never opted to comment on one of your specials, but this Outré by Crocodile is truly a gem. Being a lefthander, it writes better than my Mont Blanc and is smoother and slicker!"
B. O. B., Nutley, NJ

Lai Yee hasn't raised prices on her pen pouches/rolls in many years. However, that's not been true of the material suppliers! So, there will be a modest price increase for 2016.

We'll hold the current prices for anyone who gets their order in before the end of Sunday, January 3rd.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
