La Pen Show 2016

Hmmm. This will be my 23 or 24 LA show. Go early! Stay late!

There is no bigger pen show on this planet!

Budgets, timing, and your interests should drive the schedule.

I'll be there early Thursday.

May or may not be there Sunday. Do what works in your life, but early will get the rare worm (pen).

Jim Rouse and I will be there with F-C. Two tables just left of the main entrance. - Scott F.

Yay! I can thank you in person for the killer 66P in Antique Glass I got about a month ago, and thank Jim again for one of his Fantasy Legacies I got from him at the SF show last August. You people make spectacular products!

Don't forget to bring the vodka.

Cross my heart...Friday evening after the show, do not forget your special camera and lens for new models.

This is my first LA pen show. Don't know the procedure

I had the same experience and question a couple of years ago when I first attended.

You will be able to pick up your package immediately outside the entry, where they have a table set up for exactly that.

To save money and time the organizers stopped mailing a few years ago.

To the right, as you enter the lobby is a table. Give them your name and you’ll get an envelope with announcements and your pass. Hang the pass around your neck.

Just beyond the table is a guy who looks like the one Indiana Jones shot in his first movie. About 7 feet tall, wearing a turban and pantaloons, resting his chin on the hasp of a scimitar. He is not a pen dealer. If he can’t see your pass, he wakes up.

Just past him and to the right is the entrance to the Ball Room, the main part of the show, although much can be found outside of the Ball Room and along the windows overlooking the Golf Course.

Breath deep, relax, enjoy. It’s only money.

I'll be there, probably Thursday afternoon/evening. I might try to bring ink i don't really use anymore--if you have a vial, you can have a sample. :-)

They have no respect for my wallet. Most expensive possible way to enjoy looking, buying, talking, trading, tweaking our "precious obsessions."

The by far greatest expense is the cost of my wife's pen show activities, and after pen show activity. Shopping in LA and dinner and entertainment comensurate with her tolerating a Pen Show on Valentine's Day!

Cheers,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
