Hello From Michigan!

I write a lot and amost always with a fountain pen. I have a variety of Pilot fountain pens, the latest being a justus 95. I also have a couple vintage pens in need of restoration. I've learned a lot reading these forums and thought it was finally time to introduce myself. Happy new year to everyone!

Thank you Sasha, as a fountain pen enthusiast I would love to!

For Christmas I received a Justus 95 with a barleycorn finish and a fine nib. So I've been enjoying that pen these past several days. I was surprised how well the nib adjustment works after having read it was a gimmick. The difference in line thickness even with no pressure applied is obvious on mine making it a very useful feature. Even without that feature it would be a very nice pen.

I also use my favorite Fountain pen duo an amber Pilot Custom 823 with a fine nib, and a Black 823 with a FA nib that I was able to order from Tokyo pen shop thanks to reading this forum. The fine is my workhorse, and the FA is my fun pen with its flexible nib. This is the one that see's all the fun colors, if I had to choose a favorite color it would have to be iroshizuku yama-budo, this week at least. I use more black ink than any other color though and that tends to be Noodlers black.

I also have 2 Pilot Falcon pens, one resin and one metal, both extra fine. These pens get a lot of use especially for writing small. I love their balance of stiff / flex making them very easy to write with, yet nice line variation in a small space.

I also have a Pilot custom 74 in extra fine. It's my carry around pen because I got it at a good price, it has good ink capacity, and it writes quite well.

There are quite a few of us here from SE Michigan, and there are occasional get-togethers in Ann Arbor. If you're interested, keep an eye on the Clubs, Meetings, and Events forum.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
