Kwz Ink Iron-Gall Ig Gold

I finally remembered to do a review of this. Wonderful ink. Good flow, water-resistance, shading, nice colour, cool colour change, fresh minty smell, what more to ask? (Okay maybe sheen... Well it does have some kind of subtle silvery sheen when there's a lot of ink put down.)

I adore the dried colour but dislike the "fresh". Not sure how much that would annoy me but I think I'm willing to give it a go on the next KWZI order.

Thank you so much Lgsoltek, lovely review as always. :)

Thanks for adding the video!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • 9 months later...

Now that I finally have some I can sadly confirm my initial reactions were correct.

I really like the dry colour but wet, it's too light for me to see what I'm writing as I go along. It really is like writing with yellow.

I've just, rather embarrassing to say, popped some Lexington Grey into it to help. 1 part per 10 of IG Gold. I'm happier now. It still dries to the same colour but now I'm able to see what's going down on the page.

Hope the mix doesn't react in any way

I think you might pour out the ink and pour it back... to have it oxidised a little in the process. According to Mrs KWZI, these yellow and orange IG inks tend to darken with the air in the bottle over time because they are very light to begin with. The final colour on paper is still the same. I think you can accelerate the process a little by exposing it to the air.

Thanks for the tip.

I'll get a straw out and blow some bubbles though it. :)

@Lgsoltek is right :) @Tas - the pen that you tried during the Pen Show was inked a week before, and as the pen is not hermetic, the ink became darker inside over few days, that's why you didn't see it so yellow at start. It is better not to mix it with anything - even tap water might be dangerous for its stability.

- Best wishes, Mrs. KWZI :)

Fabulous news. I will load it into a Noodler's pen of some kind, that should sort the issue out. I'll not mix it in future  I understand it's a bit like pouring ketchup all over a top chef's meal.

LOL, that's a good idea. Just be careful of the bubbles, the splashing and the bursting!

I like both colors, fresh and dried. Is there a non-IG Gold that remains the color of this ink when fresh?

Old Gold is quite similar to fresh IG Gold, just a little bit darker to make it easier to write & read :)

Dzięki, Agnieszka! Will you and Konrad be at the Madrid Pen Show, perhaps?

Marek, Marta, and I are organizing a Fountain Pen Day meeting on Friday, 4.11, which means Warsaw COULD be an option. However, the friend whose apartment we'd stay at now lives in Germany, so.... I'll just have to order the inks via poczta. But I also want to spend a lot of time looking at your ink samples!

Then again, there are many helpful reviews on fpn (many thanks to those members who provide them).

So many beautiful colors...!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
