Hello,

Today I found a listing for a variant of what I believe is a 616 Jumbo (hard to exactly say, the seller just calls it 'big size', but I did spend a bit of time looking from the picture to my current Jumbo and the sections seem about the same length in ratio to the overall length of the pen, so I'm pretty sure it's a Jumbo), and with a new gold cap. I have never seen the Jumbo with a gold cap, and as far as I can tell it looks like the clutch's two metal rings don't stick out past the body of the pen, something that always bothers me about my current Jumbos. The nib also looks to be at least gold-colored. Anybody know if these are a new form of Jumbo, possibly to complement the recent 616-2's, or have these been around and I've completely missed them during all my searching?

Here's the listing I found, I've done lots of business with this seller, so I'm pretty sure they're not going to be fakes...

Thanks,

jcreilley

Hmmm... thing is you can't go by the picture. The photo shows a lined cap, and the description says "Please note we are selling the new version of Hero 616 Golden Cap.  The is no lines on the cap.", so the photos are not of the pen you'll receive.

i bought a  jumbo described as old stock with a gold nib and cap a while back, btw.

Yeah, I was interested by that as well. Made me think that this well could be some new run with a couple tweaks. I snagged a green one, so when it arrives I'll give a report.

The vendor has found a way to make a 616 seem novel enough to to draw in purchasers willing to pay an inflated price.

I got the pen in today. The pen is a standard Jumbo size, not the smaller version. The plastic and build quality seems typical for a Jumbo. The cap is chrome and with a yellow gold tint, to sure what material was used, but it definitely is heavier. The cap is also completely smooth, no lines are sign of any kind outside the Chinese lettering and '616' on the bottom as usual. Nib is gold colored as well, and I'm not sure what material they used, but I do feel it's a LITTLE more smooth and springy than other 616 nibs I've tried. Overall, seems about the same, maybe nicer given the nib and the heavier cap. I immediately unscrewed the clip and put it on my old silver car to make it a two-tone. Not sure if it's a new run or not, but definitely seems ever so slightly nicer in some aspects!

Do you have another, earlier purchased.Jumbo/Doctor's with which to compare?

Yes, at one point I had multiples of all three Jumbo colors, they're a favorite everyday pen for me.

Can I chime in to ask if a Jumbo is genuine or not?

http://www.ebay.com/...r-/151880683493

There is this UK seller which is close enough to me to avoi waiting biblical times for a new fountain pen.

I new to fountain pens and can't spot the differences between the real deal and the dodgy ones

Certainly the one I got from that seller about a year ago was the real thing.

The cap line engraving is much fainter and aluminium jewel smaller than I'm used to seeing from the erstwhile 'YesPen'. Few photos here:

Huh. Okay, in light of that I will qualify my previous post and say the one I got appears to be genuine given that I don't have another to compare it to, and unlike the clearly-not-correct regular sized 616s I've had (one from a reputable pen shop, I might add) does actually fill properly and works flawlessly. So if it's not the real deal, it's at least a very decent knock off of the real deal.

Please fell free to chastise me severally if I fail to write simply and clearly as I do not wish to ever add to a string of muddled responses.

The pens in the above eBay offering are genuine, real, honestly Hero 616, and not fakes. I speak from experience.

his picture are the 616 Regular (red), SEE THEM LIKE FAKE  SECTION

I'm considering sending the above for cryptographic analysis.

Now I've just opened  the packaging of one those pictured in the eBay offering and found it not to be the "Jumbo" size. The "Jumbo's" section is smaller than the regular size 616 and what I found in the package was a pen with the larger section, not the smaller of the "Jumbo". The pen is definitely regularly sized. Now, this does not mean that the offering is fake. In fact, I've used several of these packaged pens and found them to of good quality and excellent writers.
