This topic is intended to show the various sizes and forms of the Waterman cartridges and converters over the years.

 

 

As far as I know Waterman did invent the cartridge. First glass, later made of plastic, it has seen some different forms.

 

Also there have been various converters, even within the same basic type the looks were different.

 

 

Please post your pictures and accompanying information on this subject.

 

 

 

Bear in mind that posts may be redacted to reach a comprehensive result.

19. CF Converter - side bar with bar towards the tail end of the body. Sorry about the poor picture, it was lifted from a CF web sale. (also used with Watermina pens)

20. 300 Squeeze Bar - a single piece of steel wrapping around the sac. Instructions printer thereon state, WATERMAN MADE IN ENGLAND. TO FILL PRESS RIBBED BAR 6 TIMES. AFTER FILLING LEAVE IMMERSED IN INK FOR 10 SECONDS.

NOTES:
1. Some of these have a ribbed mouth piece, but they are NOT screw-lock converters like the Schmidt K6
2. Some converters have a threaded or grooved collar. It is not a screw thread but a feature, creating surface roughness, to aid retention inside plastic sections. To my knowledge ALL Waterman converters are a push fit into sections.

OK yes good thinking.

 

I have only seen two glass sizes and Richard B states two sizes but does not provide specifics.

 

Maybe one of our other Waterman experts can chip in.

It is yet a mystery to me for which pens these were intended.

Shown here is the Screw converter - all black plastic mouth (post #2, item 15) approaching and fitting the spear adapter of a Carene.

Waterman brochures refer to them as screw converters because the piston mechanism screws in and out.

 

The unit does not screw into the section.

Forgive my probably incredibly off-topic post, I've been away from the forums for a while (studies, and enjoying my new diamine collection) and since I was a lurker in the first place have probably forgotten the etiquette! My hemisphere waterman fountain pen black gt was recently stolen, and as it had great sentimental value I've immediately replaced it. However in losing the pen I also lost my converter. I can't quite remember where I found the last one, though I remember it was on the advice on one of the forum members here... Is there a specific modern cartridge converter needed for watermans?

Current one sold is nr 15.

Every shop carrying Waterman pens can help you there. And it's also available online at many good shops, and even at Amazon.

Good morning. I am new to FPN. I just found a FP that I had in a closet for about 20 years. It is a Waterman L'Etalion Green Lacquer. I need to find the appropriate converter to see if it still works (I remember I didn't use it that much). What converter should I buy? In addition, it seems like I left it with a used cartridge of ink and An unclean nib for all those years. I am following the booklet and soaking it in 1/3 house ammonia (Windex) and 2/3 water. Any other suggestion?

The Etalon would have been supplied with a standard screw converter, post #2, item 12 or 13.

 

If you cannot source one at a sensible price then look to buying the very latest version, post #2 item 15, from a Waterman dealer or Amazon.

Very nice information! Thank you. I always noticed the glass converters has some small black or blue brick like sort of object I guess to shake and keep the ink fluid?? I have a cf pen set as well as the duo 7, each with glass cartridges.

That is the seal plug which must (can only) be pushed inside.

Overpriced is a matter of opinion. They are getting scarce hence prices go up.

 

Nothing to do about that. AFAIK no one is currently making new ones.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
