"new" Safari And Al-Star Colours For 2016

Strange, the blue/green aka turquoise goes with Pelikan's decision to declare "aquamarine" the color of the year.

I have both pens the OP mentioned. I like the Apple Green. I think, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the colors are being added to the regular line. New special edition colors should still come out. It seems like the Al-Star color was already shown as a yellow-green looking color.

If I've misunderstood what this thread is about, please forgive me.

Yes, you are correct, the two pictured in the OP are being added to the regular lineup. The Al Star LE is called "Charged Green", and I think the Safari LE is, purple?

Hi folks,

we have finally seen new Lamy pens for 2016 (not all of them), so I asked our resident photographer Faisal to take some photos.

This is the best colour representation of Lamy Al-Star Charged green pens and matching ink we could do :)

Enjoy!

Mishka

ps: Charged green will be available in February (few more sleeps :vbg: )

Hi p2p! (Everyone)

Yes, the Dark Lilac (Model #L73) is scheduled for April.

Also:

Charged Green (Model #L52) is due next month

Blue-Green (Model #L32-Was LE Model last year) will be back as a standard model starting April.

When will the green Safari be available? February?... :D

I promised myself I can buy one more Safari or Al-Star, but I'm having a hard time deciding which one I'll buy

What I really do wish is that Lamy would bring out once again the Coffee special from 2011. I think this was an Al-Star special, but it may have been a Safari. There is a lack of brown colours and the Coffee special was brilliant.

Thanks Frank! (and Hi!)

Every recent year, I say no more.. but then I see the useful value in Safari, because I use them every day.

Purple is Not my favorite color by a long stretch.. But I do like the exact color shown in preview.

- so I'm excited about this one.

Apparently Wonderpens in Canada (no affiliation) just got the charged green Al-Star in stock, if anyone is too impatient to wait a few days till February.

Funny, I was thinking the opposite (and the Safari only "meh" at that).

I'm going to hold out for the Purple Safari and see if it's a purple that I can tolerate -- I like the color of the purple Al-Star, but I picked up one at OPS and the corners on that triangular grip are sharp (as in "owwy" sharp...).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

I was wondering about that, is there a significant difference between the Safari and the Al-Star grip?

In close up pictures, it seems that the Al-Star has a "step" between the body and the grip right in front of the O-ring as opposed to the Safari/Vista body/o ring/back of the grip forming a nice even surface, which would explain the need for the fingertips to bear down the front corners of the the Al-Star grip.

Has anyone else experienced a difference in holding each pen due to the step necessitating a different grip on the Al-Star versus the Safari?

No, they are exactly the same (although the Safari and Vista have a plastic ring between the front section and the barrel). Sometimes the mould split-lines are more prominent on some examples. A quick run-down of the thumb nail sorts that though.

My goodness, that blue-green Al Star is gorgeous! Maybe I'll choose that color with my next Al Star. Or perhaps red or orange, if I have that option. I'd definitely like to be able to compare them all together to make a decision :-).

I do not collect pens just because they come out in a pretty new colour each year.

Therefore I have declared Safaris "Honorary Not-Pens". Now I am going to have to make the same declaration for the Al-Stars.

The problem with the Al-Stars is that you cannot photograph them properly. You just have to get one in your hand to truly appreciate the depth of colour in the anodising.

I was not a fan of "Charged Green" when I first saw it, but it's growing on me with pics like these. My resolve to resist is fading.

If it had a black clip I think I'd *have* to have one.

{tapping foot impatiently} ... when will the Charged Green be available in the United States? Have checked a few US sites and they're not yet available, even though I've seen it available at several places outside the US.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
