Kobe (神戸市 Kōbe-shi) is the sixth-largest city in Japan and is the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, on the north shore of Osaka Bayand about 30 km (19 mi) west of Osaka. With a population around 1.5 million, the city is part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto. Its name comes from "kanbe" (神戸), an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine. Kobe became one of Japan's 17 designated cities in 1956.

Kobe is famous for its shirines and nioce architecture but among fountain pen and ink afficionados the name Kobe cause increased heart-rate. The city is a home of Nagasawa-Kobe stationery shop that offers incredible lione of more than fifty inks made by Sailor.

Thanks to incredible and generous people from FPN and PWF (polish forum)I was able to review almost full line of Nagasawa-kobe inks. Almost because today I've found out that soon two new colors will be introduced. It's never-ending story I guess :)

Adamon, Amberleajames, Aoirghe, Cyber6, Haruka337, Mmg112, Vijay, Yennefer, Mmg112, Tinjapan I want to thank you for sharing ink samples with me. I hope I've done them justice.

At the moment Nagasawa-Kobe offers 52 inks, but soon two more will be introduces. I've managed to try and review 52 of them:

Summary

Thank you for your attention. I have few more things to scan but for instance that should do it. In my opinion Nagasawa-kobe line of inks is the best line of fountain pen inks ever created. I enjoy inks of other makers, but none of them offers such quality and huge palette of intriguing hues. Even though some colors aren't made for me, all of this inks behave extremely well in a variety of pens on a variety of papers. That's something. If - right now - you're reaching for your wallet don't blame me. It's Sailor Ink-master that ingenuity makes us drool and look for this inks. I know some people are hesitant to stock things. I'm one of them. You wouldn't believe but at the moment I have maybe 30 bottles of ink. If I don't use something I usually sell it or give it to someone. However the earth insists to keep on turning and before some time these inks may be gone. That's why I'm planning to stock some of them.

My number one in the line is no. 3 Kyuu-Kyouryuuchi Sepia. Other inks I would love to have are Souraken Tea Green, Minatojima Island Blue, Kaigan Stone Grey, Kano Cho Midnight Blue, Minatogawa Lime, Ijinkan Red, Arima Amber and Kounan Maroon. Other two I like a lot are Taisanji Yellow and Suzuran Green but happily I have full bottles of them.

I want to express once again gratitude to all those who made this comparison possible by sharing their inks. Adamon, Amberleajames, Aoirghe, Cyber6, Haruka337, Mmg112, Vijay, Yennefer, Mmg112, Tinjapan thank you a lot!

I hope you like this comparison and find it in any way helpful. Please share your experience with Nagasawa-kobe line of inks and vote in a poll.

@Migo - it seems than in order to vote you have to mark at least one answer to each question :/ I didn't know. But please write us which are your favourites and which do nothing for you? It seems the least intriguyng color is no. 35 Suwayama Leaf Green. No one commented in the review of this one. I can agree. It's rather boring color.

My favourite ink of them all is:

Sano-cho Midnight - just sumptuous and it feels like velvet on the paper.

Others I really enjoy using are:

Injkan Red, Nagisa Museum Blue Grey, Kaikyo Blue, Bordeaux, Sannomiya Pansė, Minatogawa Lime, Kitanozaka Night Blue and Minotajima Island Blue.

I'm not keen on Rokko Island Sky or Sumiyoshi Brown.

Thank you Vis, for all your fab reviews of this series of inks. It's a wonderful resource. Sailor inks are head and shoulders above any others, as far as I'm concerned.

Ps I also love the LE inks Turner Brown, Van Gogh Cobalt and Ur Lapis Blue

This is an absolutely wonderful review. I'm bookmarking it for the future. A very impressive project Vis!

The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards.

Can't thank you enough for this comprehensive overview!

Maya lapis and Indigo are my favorites. Nakayamate Black looks very interesting and Foreigners Ward Sepia is probably the best color in my opinion.

Spectacular! I can't thank you enough - but also I can't blame you enough for the collusion: why are they doing this to me? Don't they know that I'm incapable of resisting nice inks? How many pens do they expect me to have inked at the same time? I'm lost ;-)

Great Stuff!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Your reviews have made me spend quite a bit of money!! Fortunately I can't get my hands on these (although I do have a list now in case I ever do find them)!! Please stop with the incredible reviews. It's terrible for my budget!

Thank you so much for this! I love your comparison/ compilations at the end of a review set. Thankfully, you steered me away from two inks that I was considering-- though I've now replaced them with two others that I will like much better. Well, assuming I ever stumble across them... :D

The notion that it might be the "best line ... ever" does not seem unreasonable. However, I am not finding them very much available at this point, just a few colors. Hopefully that is a temporary thing.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
