I recently won this Penrite pen on ebay.

 

Very Early Bakelite Fountain Pen (Penrite) Item number: 190101865342

 

What interested me most about this pen was the nib - warranted nib with an imprint I have only seen on an Olympian. Now an Olympian is a Wahl sub-brand, and I was wondering if this was as well. Any ideas?

Nice catch John!

I'm not familiar with the line but it seems to have some similarities to the BHR Wahl Tempoints I've seen and had. The clip, section and pen profile have that early Wahl look.

I have the pen in hand now, and I would be very surprised if it were not a Wahl. The clip, lever, pressure bar, etc all scream early Wahl. Nib needs a little work (someone had a heavy hand - it has an unusual and uneven flat spot and tip wear), and the HR is in the milk-chocolate range, but still a nice pen.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
