Is It A Legit Mb 149?

I am being offered this MB 149 rose gold (that is what the seller says) for around $840.00. I say around because I would be buying it in local currency. But before finalizing the deal I would appreciate advice from fellow FPNers. Is the pen a legit MB 149? Is it really in rose gold finish? What year production is it? Is it worth the price as demanded by the seller?

And any other advice that may be deemed as necessary.

Thanks in advance. Best:

Khan M. Ilyas

Looks legit, however for the colour I would say it's rather yellow gold than a rose gold one. The pen is probably after 2000 era, as for the price 840 usd seems to be a boutique price. Does it include shipping?

Second group of pics are different; at least inkwell now it is the modern one.

I agree it is not a bargain, this is the price for a brand new MB 149 on a boutique.

you're right, also when you look closer on the second group the sticker is easy visible and it's seems clearly that you're dealing with rose gold version

It's legit but at that sort of price you may as well buy it from a Montblanc boutique and choose the nib you want. Then even if you don't like that nib you can exchange it for free within the first 6 weeks of owning it.

Thanks to everyone for their valuable inputs. The seller has dropped the price now to $795.00. And yes, the pen is brand new. The seller says he is a legit dealer of MB pens in Pakistan.

And yes, he says the pen in the later pics would be supplied.

I would be careful here since these two sets of photos shows two different pens as well, so if I were you as payment method I would use paypal for the transaction, which would protect buyer if something goes wrong.

The seller has agreed on supplying the pen on the basis of cash on delivery. He says it is not a matter of concern to him since he would be on a pre-planned business visit to Islamabad (where I live) on thursday next.

He is based in Lahore which is not so far away from Islamabad

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
