Montblanc Bordeaux, Written Review

Hi all,

I promised to do another ink review, Bordeaux this time, on request biggrin.gif, so here it is, on the 7th day of the week biggrin.gif. I have chosen Montblanc Bordeaux for this review. Another Bordeaux will hopefully be up next week some time.

As I mentioned, the more I started using it, the more I liked it. However, it is clear that it is of little use in very fine nibs, and that it works best in wet writers. Furthermore, when rinsing out the pens an nibs, I found that it was an easy job compared to high density inks. All in all the rinsing and flushing took about 2 hours, over a period of 2 days, to get the pens thoroughly clean.

Enjoy!

Warm regards, Wim

Wim, are you sure that you didn't just dip all those nibs in a young Charmes-Chambertin?  ;) Just beautiful!

I have Swishmix Burgundy en route. It'll be interesting to see vs. the Mah blah Burgundy.

Hi Roger,

Did you order your share of KCat vials yet, to send me some of that stuff? The Swishmix I'm talking about.

Since you mention wine, nope, it was ink. And the only ink I did taste (by accident) was Noodler's Ottoman Rose. I guess you could categorize that as a burgundy as well... :D

No, I haven't. I'll have to dig up KCat's thread and see what must be done to participate in her innovative program. Weeks ago, I didn't have enough inks, in house, to be of any interest to this bunch of inkheads :D ; gradually, however, I am acquiring a stash of my own and soon may be a player.

I hate to keep requiring a response from you, but now you must tell us how you accidently tasted Ottoman Rose? :o

Got it, Wim. That thread was just a little before I registered on FPN, and though I'm gradually reading stuff that came before, I hadn't seen that one yet. :(

What am I going to tell my non FP friends? I have a new acquaintance that not only accidently gets a taste of ink, but then proceeds to evaluate it?! This is the coup de grace for some of them. :P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
