Montblanc Meisterstuck Pen And Pencil Set - Bordeaux

OK - I'll do a newby post here.

About 25 years ago, I was given five Montblanc pen and pencil sets - four in black, and one in (what I guess is called) Bordeaux. I gave the other sets away over the years as college graduation gifts to my nieces and nephew. I kept the Bordeaux one. It was stuffed in a drawer for many years. I ran across it a few months ago when I sold my house, and almost sold it in the garage sale. But I remembered the person who gave them to me saying "these are valuable". So, I decided to keep it for a while longer. It is unused. I am curious what this might be worth, and to know if there is any rarity to this item. Many thanks.

They are nice but not very rare or exceptionally valuable. I would ask for $200 US if I were to offer these for sale. (I am not buying. This is just my opinion. )

Good call in not selling them at a garage sale. The bordeaux models are less common than the standard black and gold, but I would not consider them rare. I'd say these could fetch upwards of $250; definitely more if you present and photograph them well. Best of luck.

Look on ebay. Montomery stationary has a set like this listed for $1043. They generally price their items very high, but are in very good condition. I see a larger 164 pen listed for $199 but it says it is covered in scratches, another pen for 349. Pencils are not as common, and apparently not in as much demand, although I like a pen pencil set.

I am by no means an expert, but suspect as a set it is worth far more than the 250 mentioned here, but who knows unless you put it up for an aution. Personally I would keep it and pick up one of the 146 or 147 Bordeaux pens and make a complete 3 piece set.

Regards

Jeff

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
