Pilot Mr Skipping

Recommended Posts

I'e just got a pilot mr about a week ago and sometimes it skipped but now it is skipping more and more
I've clean it and the ink that i'm using is RK Permanent Blue
It seems to be skipping more on one notebook but all my other FP do not do that on that notebook
Any thing that I can do to correct it ?
I've also look in the nib for misalignment but found none .

Thanks

There will surely be more expert opinions offered, but here's mine. Try cleaning with a little mild (hand-) dishwashing detergent in lots of water, and rinse very well. It has worked a few times for me, on pens with similar issues, and is easy and cheap to try. You want a clean, oil/grease-free nib and feed. Good luck!

It could be a variety of factors.

It could be the ink (I'm not familiar with what you're using, although I like R&K Salix and Scabies): there's a possibility that the ink just doesn't do well in that particular pen Some pens write drier or wetter than others -- even within the same brand and model, with the same size nib; I have, for instance, four Noodler's Konrads, and the Poseidon Pearl just writes a lot drier than than the ebonite Konrad or either of the other two resin-body ones. Ditto for one of my Parker Vectors -- even with a medium nib it writes *way* drier than the firehose F)

It could be the paper (some are more FP "friendly" than others).

It could be the nib (particularly the tipping, such as baby's bottom) although it might be the nib width on the pen; I have a Metropolitan (the US version) and when I got it I got a medium nib because the fine I tried seemed scratchy.

It could be, as Brian_14 said, that it needs to be flushed well (in case it still has some of the manufacturing oils and such in it).

It could be that you may be getting oils from your hand on the paper (in which case you may need to put another piece of paper over the part of the page you're resting your hand on).

It could be that there is some problem, such as the feed not being set up correctly with the nib.

It could even be a combination of one or more of those factors.

If you could post pictures of the nib, with closeups of the nib, feed, and tipping, the more experienced people might be able to diagnose what your issue(s) are and suggest more concrete remedies.

Thanks brianm_14 and inkstainedruth

I've flushed the pen and removed the nib and feed and put it back "perfectly" and still skips

i've tried in other papers and did not skip

mi guessing is the paper but it is weird because it skips on one side of the page but not on the other

oil from my hands is very unlikely because skips on the top of the page where my hand as not been in contact with

Here are 2 pics of the nib as suggested

You didn't mention trying a different ink - do you have another?

I find ink issues can exaggerate those weird paper things. Mine hates Lamy Turq and will skip with that on lots of papers, sometimes only one side or certain sheets, when it doesn't otherwise with other inks.

The pen was still skipping even after changing the ink
I just find that this problem is really particular to one specific notebook so i'll just stop using that one

Thanks very much all of you for all the help

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
