When we last left off, our intrepid pen hunters were searching inside a vintage Parker 51 box, hoping to find a rare treasure.

But then.....

AAAAAaaaaarrrrrgh! The horror!

Hmmm. Couldn't tell for sure, but it sort of looked like a 61 barrel. But then again, there's that pesky threading....

ETA: Maybe it's just the Universe balancing itself. After all, I did find a 1926 Duofold Lucky Curve in a MB clamshell case last summer....

LOL indeed! It might not be a 51, but it's a nice looking set.

It led to some other stuff to watch for fun.

I tried to turn the photo upside down to read the imprint on the barrel. Thought it *might* say "WAHL" but wasn't entirely sure. They do look nice (and the current bid is only $11.50 US). But definitely not 51s....

Hey, hey, hey. Is that a Sheaffer Triumph nib? NotaWahl.

I'll bet someone who was hoping for a serious bargain on a Sheaffer Masterpiece set is going to lament that link....

Yep, although I expect enough knowledgeable people would have recognized them anyway.

How did I miss this latest edition to the fun?

May be by now there is some thing else that should qualify to be called as 'latest edition to the fun'. Just need a little looking out for it. Lol. Edited by mitto

But "Where did my nib go?" wouldn't be as much fun!

We could play "But the seller said it is in Excellent Condition"... and find the most awful damaged item called excellent, mint, etc. But which forum do we put that in?

What is the exchange rate? Would that be a years salary for that part of the world?

At least it is listed as maroon.

Only a day's or a half day's salary for highly skilled getting around $3500 - $6000 per month.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
