You know you have given enough information to identify the eBay seller, yes?

This OP's problem is important. Why aren't we using this network better?

I must admit to not knowing appropriate protocol here. Should we, or should we not, provide the name of a seller when they're passing off flawed pens under the guise of better condition? Please advise, Oh Wise Ones. :)

(Wasn't trying to fly under the radar with my earlier posts---my intent was to provide enough pertinent information to warrant educated responses.)

My apologies if I've inadvertently crossed a line.

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Is that a problem...???  : : : sigh : : :

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

What would be the reason for protecting the identity of a seller who either misrepresents his/her merchandise or inadvertently sells inferior goods?

Thankfully, all is resolved. The credit processed through PayPal yesterday; I was still able to post an honest review after the fact:

"First pen had cracked cap. Replacement pen badly rusted. Neither as advertised."

To no one's surprise, the seller messaged me first thing this morning, asking that I take down the review. Since it's 100% accurate, it will stand, in hopes that other buyers are aware of the disparity between the description and actual product.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this thread!

I'm glad you got it resolved. Your comment is the type that helps to keep lazy or unscrupulous sellers' behavior in check and is a valid warning to other potential buyers. I've caved in to sellers pleading with me to remove negative comments in the past but won't do that any more.

That's nothing. The only other time I've submitted a negative review of a seller was on Amazon (brand name item being "Fulfilled by Amazon," which means ships from a U.S. location).

Turned out the item was shipping from China, with an estimated delivery date of six weeks. When it finally did arrive, it was a poorly made knock-off, not the brand name item advertised. I spun back to the seller's Amazon storefront, and sure enough, their reviews were riddled with dozens of users reporting the same.

In spite of the blatant mistruths in the listing, that seller kept sending emails asking me to remove or edit my review. Went on for three weeks, by which time I'd reported them to Amazon, who eventually shut down the storefront altogether.

I know exactly the seller you're talking about. I bought a pen from them when I was a brand new user. Cap lip was cracked when I got it. It's under "Esterbrook J Fountain Pen You Choose Color and Nib!".

Wow.  That seller had some nerve....

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

And, sadly, the Seller retaliated by writing a scathing review of me as a buyer, after I chose not to respond to her angry emails.

(Yes, the seller's name is visible in the linked image, but somehow, I don't feel bad about sharing it now, given the follow up and benbot517's earlier post. The seller has un-listed, then re-listed, to change the reference number...might not be her first rodeo.)

Yikes.  I've seen a lot of listings from that particular seller (and even followed a few).

I tried to PM you with details about the case where I had to open a dispute, but I got this weird error message saying I would have to delete some messages -- that I was full up on the allotted space....  But at the time I *did* out the seller -- by name -- in another thread).  Not the same seller as in your case, but one that had LOTS of listing and LOTS of transactions and LOTS of positive feedback.

Of course, after my experience, I've wondered how many people out there were like me, who *weren't* allowed to post feedback since the disputes were settled in favor of the buyers....  Scarily, though, that particular seller is only #3 on the list "Bad Sellers" that lives on a Stickie on my laptop screen (yes -- there are sellers who are, IMO, even WORSE, even while not being ones I actually filed disputes with).

Wow!

I went and looked at the original listing...it says"gently used,no major flaws"....how is that you not reading descriptions when they send you cracked and rusted?....and at that price it should be an EXCELLENT Esterbrook.

Ruth, dear Ruth, clean out your inbox (please, pretty please)---would love to PM you. :)

Didn't realize it was full up until last night.

I've just logged on here about 10 minutes ago.  Spent a lot of time last night and today discussing/arguing over some really esoteric minutia (not pen related) on a mailing list I'm on.  And at first I understood the point of view of the guy I've taken stuff offline with, I thought about it some more and am still not sure I wasn't right in the first place....  (I'm not entirely convinced that it's not the Libra genes kicking in, and me arguing just for the sake of arguing...).

[Short version: people in a different region of the organization I belong to have made a whopping change in policy -- which was made retroactive -- and that retroactivity affects a number of people in my region; some for the good ("you mean that person X DOESN'T have that level of recognition?  Crikey!  I had no idea!") and some for the not so good (people are now asking whether the old paperwork has to be changed at the individual -- as opposed to the regional/corporate online -- level).

And you people thought that FPN gets pedantic sometimes....   You're amateurs.  Trust me.

Woooo-hoooo!

Thank you, Biber, for the kind offer (adding yet another name to my list of Estie sources....).

And thank you, gweimer1, for finding a gem. Just responded to your PM, and am tickled pink with the lovely Copper J you found. Looking foward to welcoming it home. :)

I'm the amateur here.  I read 'got snookered on ebay' to be 'got schnockered on Scotch' which very well could lead to the other.

At any rate, did we get the Esterbrook part of this problem solved?
