Twsbi Diamond 580Al Colors

Through Pendleton Brown's Butter Line Stub~Italic nibs, I was introduced to the notion that TWSBI issues different colors now and again for this model. I seem to be accumulating them. These are really nifty pens!

I've exhausted my capability for sleuthing out the various colors before I have to return to the real world. I am aware that blue is relatively recent, but all I know is that I ordered one from Pendleton on Fountain Pen Day 2015.

I am aware of these colors:

- Silver

- Purple

- Blue

- Orange (which I appear to have missed)

Are there other colors I've missed in the Diamond 580AL line?

Any knowledge of when they were issued?

In order of when they came out...

  1. Silver (part of current line, not limited)
  2. Orange (which I missed too)
  3. Purple
  4. Blue
  5. Green (not released yet)
  6. Red (not released yet)

Green and Red.. not sure of which one will come first. I am definitely going for the green. ;)

Maybe both will come out at the same time, in time for Christmas? ;)

Goulet Pens just announced the Green will be introduced in March. It looks like it will be a very nice green indeed! I don't know if they will continue the trend, but my blue 580 AL matches the blue on my TWSBI inkwell. And if they do the same as they did with the blue don't wait! The blue was discontinued less than two months from it's introduction.

Let's hope, the green I saw was really nice, it would be really great to have a matching pen for each inkwell, or is that a matching inkwell for each pen? :)

I saw in the comments on their Facebook that a mini AL is in the works including coloured versions.

I'd say I want a mini green AL more than the full size but it is also TWSBI so it could be two years away yet.

I didn't realize the colors were limited edition and didn't have the money at the time. I also missed the boat on the orange. If anyone is wanting to give up (for a reasonable price, less than 3x markup :( ) their TWSBI 580AL Orange, I would be more than willing to acquire it from you. Like Cyber6 my two color preferences in the lineup are the orange and green. Limited run stuff kills me. Visconti Crystal Blue I will some day own you...maybe...or not -_-

I have blue. I too missed orange. I wish that they would sell color AL parts as accessories so that I could customize my color schemes. Like orange and blue combo would be so cool.

I do like the red as well. Of the photos of the green.... not so much. If it had been more of a shamrock green type color then well.....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
