Waterman Expert 2 Blobbing Ink ... Why?

My boss uses a brand new Waterman Expert 2 to take notes during consultations. He came out today with the pen to show me that the feed was soaked with ink. Ink was blobbing out of the pen and landing in globs on the page as he wrote.

I got him to wipe down to feed to bleed some of the excess ink off, but it kept doing it. I have no idea why. I thought it was related to heat, but is there a way to get this to stop happening? He's not a FP lover like I am, and when pens act up, he's quick to get fed up with them.

I found in a Waterman that the cartridge mouth had split, which of course messed up the air control and thus, gloops. Not certain, but possible.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Wow. you are amazing. That is exactly what happened. When we opened up the pen, the cartrige had split at the top and leaked ink all over the inside of the barrel. I've taken the pen home with me for the weekend to clean it out and it should be good to go after that.

THANK YOU! I never would have considered that, since I don't own a single pen I use cartridges in.

FYI, even the converters fail.

My wife has the same pen with the same results, ink all over the inside of the pen.

- converter #1, developed a crack in the plastic cylinder

- converter #2, developed a crack in the seal on the front of the converter

I have another Waterman that has to go back to Waterman for repair. The nipple broke off, inside the cartridge, and flooded the inside of the pen with ink :-(

I also had a converter that failed in that way. It was after over a decade of daily use, so I forgave it, but it had the same problem as the cartridge - the nipple that attaches split on either side. I replaced the converter and everything worked fine.

AS for my boss, he's decided to try using a converter for a while. Personally, I'm thrilled about that. IT's one step close to getting him to try a different ink other than Waterman Black!

Saskia, if anyone can get him into other colours, it will be you!!! :D

I've also had a converter fail - but again, I'd used it for about 20 years so it had a good excuse.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
