In several newspaper this morning is said that the actual owner of Omas, the Chinese Holding O-Luxe owining 90% of Omas, want to close down the company.

Some of the employers are negotiating to make an offer to buy the Company, and also to find an agreement with sindacates.

I have no ides of what's happen there, I just reported what was written today on newspapers.

I had no idea also that the company was employing only 17 peoples recently, as said in newspaper's articles.

What I read (with a little help of Google) in the local newspaper the request for liquidation is very imminent, ie next Monday.

And yes, I hope that the company can be salvaged, albeit that time is apparently running out.

Oh dear... I had thought OMAS was doing well financially.... I personally thought they were doing a great job issuign pens that were stylish reflections of many of the vintages models that really stand out.

Google translation of one of the articles -

Crisis: Omas, the historic company Monday triggered the liquidation

Interim meeting, the table Safeguard metropolitan, for each Omas, Bologna-based company that produces high-end pens in the portfolio to a finance company in Hong Kong. The summit - said in a statement - the CEO of the company "announced the liquidation of the company that will be formalized on Monday." However the table have heard of "some purchase orders for which to Omas said maximum availability to careful consideration." At the conclusion of the meeting the parties "agreed to recognize the table as a forum for Safeguarding to accompany the path in place and have undertaken to upgrade once the proposed acquisition will be better delineated, and however short." For their part, 'the institutions have reaffirmed the utmost interest to explore all solutions that can lead to safeguard employment and to stay in the area. "

Thanks for sharing this. I hope the employees buy the company. 17 employees is pretty close to what I have heard previously.

2 years ago, in 2013, they were about 30.

It is also written in the newspaper (3rd article linked in my post).

My mistake.

I talked to the local rep in the US and they told me they only had about 10 people involved in the production (not the company as a whole) and only one guy doing the faceted barrels.

In a handful of instances when I have asked dealers and reps about OMAS I have been met with what always felt like hyperbole but you hear it enough times....

First they learn to copy the best brands, and nobody says anything. Then they use their money to buy established brands, and nobody says anything. Next they close the plants, and all that is left are pens made in China. I think they have caught onto capitalism pretty well.

Best to hold onto your European and Japanese made pens, they will someday become rare.

Richard Binder wrote a helpful piece on the long and fascinating history of imitation and similarity in pen design, with examples from Conklin, Wahl-Eversharp, Sheaffer, and others.

I read Richards article. Its factual and historically enlightening. But, that had to do with open free market competition. What is happening now is the appropriation of competitors by an entity that does not believe in freedom of expression or free markets.

No other company's materials can give you an in-the-cap view like this!

(Inside of Arco pens)

Wow! Those photos are incredibly beautiful, Mhphoto.

While I don't have an Omas (yet), I agree that they have some of the most beautiful pens out there. I find the Arco and some of the 360 pens just amazing. I hope they manage to stay in business.

I would find it a sad world if no more Omas pens were to be produced. I was attracted to them from my beginning interest. I initially tried to purchase one of each brand but somehow I couldn't stop with "one" Omas. I am grateful I ordered the Ogivia in Burkina this year & consider it my "grail pen." Out of the box from Italy it has been EVERYTHING I hoped for & I can't say that about any other pen I have wanted & subsequently purchased.

I don't think that is fair. If the company isn't profitable then it's the owners right to sell or shut down the operation.

Most Italian pen brands got their start imitating American pens.

100% in agreement with that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
