Hi All-

I got to thinking the other night (while trying to fall asleep) what was my least favorite '51' Aero color and thought it would be interesting to see what all of you thought... so, which is your least favorite?

I rocked the vote!

is it because you dislike Rare?

Normally I would have said black. Because I have too many black pens. But since I actually have *two* black 51s (an Aerometric and a 51 Vac) I can't say that. Fortunately, I did have another (better) option -- Cocoa. I think it's a hideous color. Possibly not as hideous as Buckskin Beige or Yellowstone, but awful. And apparently (at least at the moment) I seem to be moving with the tide....

But are there people out there who actually dislike Plum? Apparently so....

My favorite is Cocoa, but only because I'm too tightfisted to spring for a Buckskin Beige.

Buckskin would likely be a rather expensive pen in an Aero.

No, it's because Cocoa just isn't an attractive color, therefore it's my least favorite. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to find a nice example for a reasonable price.

Cocoa with a Lustraloy cap is really a boring combination, IMO.

I like all the colors except black and teal. Teal is a muddy greenish blue. Black seems funereal.

The rest are decent to attractive.

Hah, yes indeed!

Least favorite is probably black, although I have a nice example in the pen case.

Of all colors I do like Yellowstone but I find myself wishing they'd gone with a burnt orange 'sandstone' or a pale red color as well. Ah well, there's always Kullock!

Who says Parker did not do this?

I have to agree completely. For some reason Buckskin brings back some memories in childhood. Yes I am aware it only was produced in Vacs. Wishful thinking.

Cocoa with a Lustraloy cap boring? I don't think pens are boring, but some people are boring.

That's funny-- I voted Cocoa because it was as close as I could get to Buckskin in the poll. Happy news, in that we are not competing for the resource!

Actually, I've already got the colours I like best (Blue Cedar, Forest Green and Burgundy) so I'm not getting in anyone else's way, either.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
