Carene Deluxe Plus ?

Left FPN

Recommended Posts

What have I purchased with this Carene Deluxe.

I only gave £60 for both pens.

The nib of the Carene looks bent but the seller says (not to me) not and that it is a 'Wide' nib. So I took a gamble and will see when it arrives.

There is one thing, the seller is getting 1 star na, 0 for communication.

They were both described as Waterman. The Plus is obviously hooded and I have seen that broad cap band before. Similar to this.

The auction description,

2 stylos plumes warterman plume or

Un à cartouche
Un à pompe
It only had two pics, this was tother.

The Un a cartouche looks in poor con but the Carene not too bad.
I have just this second heard via an auto message that they have been posted. Still no word from the seller adding to the 0 stars for communication. I don't normally buy if no response but this looked worth the gamble.
Ohhh, a message from the seller has just popped through the www which reads, IS NEW. That's all folks.

If you give 0 stars for any category, it doesn't count as a rating at all. The worst rating you can give that counts towards star ratings is 1 star

I think the Carene looks like a good pen though. I like the cap.

Does a 0.5 count??? That may get a bit of the point across.

If your out-go is more than your income,

Then your up-keep.

May be your Down-falll!!!

Again here is that cap band.

It also has similar aspects, flat top and a gold coloured barrel tassie ring.

So until further notice I am going to term it 'from the Ligne 60' era.

As I'm another Brit awake before 6am, I was wondering when they might arrive.

I think the Carene looks new, so it sounds like a bargain. Buy one Carene, get another waterman free?

I am told, by ebay, Monday 16th soonest. Nowt from the seller i.e. tracking details which there should be.

Looking very closely at the 'Ligne 60' barrel to cap/section joint I have a feeling it is made up from parts. But hey it's the Carene that is important.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after 10 days wait it has arrived and here is the 'new' Carene Deluxe's nib. The cap and barrel are covered in scratches. Claim in progress.

Yes, even I would have trouble realigning this one.

The 'Ligne 60' is junk by the way.

The seller is adamant it 'was' new. Yes, it must have been at some point in its life. She/he has ceased messaging now so it will be up to Ebay CS. My claim has supporting pictures so I have every hope it will be resolved in my favour. I have requested confirmation of the sellers address and that my return cost will be met which is in the rules. Based on the results of a previous claim, they fail to understand that if this is not confirmed and agreed, I not only get refunded but they don't get the items back.

New-ly dropped on its point, then a new ham-fisted attempt to fix with pliers.

Convenient how the angle and glare in that photo just accidentally hides the damage.

Sorry about your pen.

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Discussions are under way.

Update:

Last night the seller said she assumed the pen to be new based on the fact that the 'tank' was unused. Yes, the converter looks newer than the pen and is unused.

Seller stated she did not want the pens back because of additional return costs. She asked me how much I wanted refunding. I informed her ALL that I had paid because both pens are useless.

As yet no funds and no further contact.

We are talking about an ebayer with close on 900 feedback, all positive up until last night. So she must know how to refund.

Update:

Seller has again said she does not want to pay the £15 return and has offered me €30 compensation. I have refused and informed her I will leave it to ebay claims.

Uh huh. And that wrecked B-17 found in Greenland is new because there's no fuel in the tanks...

Somewhat similar to my final message to the seller. It included 'would you consider a car of 15 years old to be new after fitting new, unused, tyres'. I have heard nowt back since.

Update: The case has resolved in my favour and a full refund issued.

This was based on my photographic evidence and the seller not responding to the case.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
