So THAT'S what's happening (not only with the Esties). :::gulp:::

 

The red J (Dubonnet, double jeweled, spade lever) arrived today, but sadly, looked like it had been through a rock tumbler---appeared to have a matte finish, from end to end, soooooooo...

 

I dove into an hour of polishing and buffing, thanks to OcalaFLGuy's miracle process, and voila! It gleams like a gem.

 

Can't wait to receive the Copper J on Monday. Might have to polish the Gray Pearl tomorrow, now that I've seen what's possible.

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
