Wondering About Engeika

I had the same experience, I bought couple items in may and the service was good, but in August I bought a Sailor fountain pen in "stock" and it took couple of months and many e-mail and frustration to get my item. I'm sorry for him but I don't feel very motivated to order anything from him again, what a pity!!!1

I paid for a nice Pelikan from Engeika on October 28th and it arrived perfectly yesterday. No problems, very pleased, will buy again if I see something I like.

On the other hand, bought a Sheaffer No Nonsense from a California seller two days later and I've watched it on the tracking go to 4 different cities in Idaho and today it is in Salt Lake. Emailed the seller and he was ZIP help... had to start a "lost package" request with the USPS on my own time.

Engeika I will use again. California Guy, nope!

  • 1 month later...

After waiting for months (ordered in September mid) and a dozen follow up (bot back a reply on 3 - 4 of the emails), I finally got an email that they are not being able to get the pens and therefore will refund ... hopefully won't have to wait for the refund much longer.

Despite several emails asking when the refund will come through ... no reply ... sent a final notice before i call CC / Paypal! Let's see, but I doubt.

My suggestion is not to buy anything from this store!

  • 3 weeks later...

I have done business with Engeika in the past...(Japanese)...and have had good service...

recently I placed an order for 2 Sailor Pens...both Limited Editions...they were advertised on the web site as limited supply, but apparently not in stock.

One pen took just over a month, and the other just under a month. (the 2nd one just shipped 2 days ago)...

Engeika always replied within 24-48 hours to my inquiries asking the status of my orders...normally the response just said waiting for Sailor and little else, but I always received a reply.

I have found Engeika to be a reliable place to purchase product....and would not hesitate again in the future...

I will also state...it is very hard to be patient when you order a product like a Fountain Pen that you want NOW! as in RIGHT NOW!

But the economic savings are usually worth the wait.

Exactly my experience with them. Orders take dauntingly long to arrive and communication can be hard (I'm always careful to talk simple English and make things not too complicated considering the language barrier), but these drawbacks are small compared to the money you save by ordering from them. The packaging is good too.

Sorry to hear that, I have not ordered from them in the last 2 years though, I see their site has massively changed etc. Maybe it's around the holiday season that things get heated?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
