GatzBcn- those are beautiful books. I have had the opportunity to use the green one you made for Amberleadavis over the last couple of weeks. Beautiful craftsmanship. If anyone gets an opportunity to try one, take it.

That green journal is in the latest issue of PenWorld Magazine along with a wonderful article about Anna and her creations. FPNers Karas Kustoms and Shawn Newton also had terrific articles.

Anna, we are so proud of you!!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

@amberleadavis I am so envious! My sample of the magazine hasn't arrived yet, so I haven't been able to view it!!!! I am so excited now!!! Thank you very much for your kind words and, specially, for your help! You know all of this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for you :).

@runnin_ute I am happy to know you were able to enjoy that notebook and that you liked it! Thank you very much for the recommendation!

AND, the photo is amazing because it even shows the ink comparisons on the two different types of papers.

Please forgive my bad picture of their wonderful picture.

I've carried my notebook around for more than a year. The leather is now getting that perfect aged look and I am still totally in love with the book. I am not even half way through and it makes me happy everytime I use it.

Happy to hear that, Amber!! It's nice to have that kind of feedback. I have my boyfriend using my journals, so we can see problems that may appear as time goes by, and it is always nice to have different opinions on that, especially to know that after more than one year you have had no issues with it.

It's been so long! I am sorry about that, I have been terribly busy for the last 3 months. Anyway, below are some of my latest works.

This was a gift from someone to a couple that got married. The map was specially chosen, as the couple went on a honeymoon to Rome. I printed the map and the leather was black or dark blue, I can't remember.

Below is a journal in A5 with Tomoe River. Brown leather and embossed cat. The endpapers are a Bomoart design. The person who has it was quite sad, as his cat was going to pass away soon, so he chose that stamp for the cover. He wanted a box combined.

I need to go now, but I'll upload some more works soon.

Also, I participated in a contest and I so want to show you that, but I'd rather be prudent and I'll wait until the winners are posted.

Have a nice day!

Hello!!

Today I wanted to share with you the biggest journal I have ever made and its challenges. Some months ago, I was contacted by Joe. He was looking for a big book. Well, not big, huge. Really huge and thick. He wanted something that had enough pages to last a few generations of his family. He told me his plan was to write in the book what he and his family were thankful for everyday.

I made an Ethiopian journal. I used a Fedrigoni paper of 90 g. Since the original sheet was 100 x 70 cm, we decided to make the journal about 33 x 25, so only a thin strip of about 20 cm was leftovers of the whole sheet (because I work in signatures, I cut each sheet at 33 x 50 cm). And now the number of pages... 500 sheets, 1000 pages counting both sides. That means I used more than 80 whole sheets of 100 x 70 cm. For a regular A6 journal I would use about 3 sheets.

That also means the final book was heavy... quite heavy. Just the paper itself was already 3-4 kg.

Anyway, once all the details were set with Joe, I put my hands to work. I sew the signatures. I had previously glued the endpaper on the first signature. Joe chose a chiyogami paper for the endpapers. He also asked for 5 bookmarks, that you can see on the left. Once sewn, the block was about 8.5 cm.

%255BUNSET%255D%2B%25284%2529.png

It was so thick that my trimming machine couldn't fit it. Fortunately, one of my teachers has an electric guillotine and it barely fit there. The top for that machine is 9 cm, so....

In any case, after trimming, I glued the covers.

%255BUNSET%255D%2B%25283%2529.png

And then the leather. It was a huge piece of burgundy leather.

%255BUNSET%255D%2B%25282%2529.png
I started applying the glue and I regreted it quite soon... the book was about 4 kg and very difficult to handle. I should have asked for help with my boyfriend to work properly, without risking damaging the leather... but I was fortunate enough that everything came out right!
%255BUNSET%255D%2B%25281%2529.png
I got into the habit of running tests before doing the actual gilding or stamping on the journal, just in case.
%255BUNSET%255D.png

Joe approved... and so the gilding was made!! I actually had to ran tests before to make sure the book fit in the machine, because I wasn't even sure.

I glued the endpapers to the covers and it was finished! Those are the final pics.

I am stunned...at the beauty of the finished product and by your talent!! I've seen big blank books, but nothing this thick! Well done on this lovely work of art!

So, what's your point?

Anna, you are the best at this that I have EVER seen. I don't know how in the world you managed to bind some of those monstrous sized journals. You have talent that is unsurpassed. Thank you for showing us your gorgeous work.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
