Prime Of The Commons - Noodler's

Noodler's is one of the companies that don't need introductions. Nathan's Tardiff work is unimaginable. The guy must be a vampire who doesn't sleep and feeds on developing ideas: new inks, new pens.

Prime of Common's was made for english market. I find this ink interesting. Addidtionally it's bulletproof.

Sample was kindly sent to me by Michael R. Thank you!

I've always wanted to try this ink, but on my monitor it looks much much more like...Herbin's Vert Empire with teal undertones? Does it look darker in real life?

Have you tried the bleach test yet?

Oddly enough, this looks to me more like the base color of Herbin 1670 Emerald of Chivor.

Thanks for the review, but this is one I'm likely to pass on. Given that it was made for the UK market, that should be easy.... ;)

I have a sample of it and in my pen it looks way darker (quite wet pen) almost black. It dries very fast but I have noticed some slight feathering, yet nothing too disturbing. There is also some sheen in the wet areas but it doesn't distract you.

I just adore this ink and have been using it for some years now. Fabulous - get it while you can, folks!

I've read that this ink demands a high level of maintenance because of its bulletproofness. How have you found it, maintenance-wise? Or do you only use it in a dedicated pen?

You can actually get it from Niche Pens. They shipped me a bottle to the U.S. Total cost was around $20.

@BayesianPrior - I just had small sample of the ink that I've used in two days time. I'm not able to answet your question. I haven't observed anything disturbing but it would be strange if such a thing would appear in two days time :)

Thanks - I think I will pick up a sample and try it for myself. Your review convinced me that it can be a versatile ink.

The bleach test I was referring to has to do with the forgery resistant properties of the ink. If you try to use bleach, the dark colours are supposed to disappear and leave behind a bright teal colour.

I happen to use it in a Pelikan M205, which is purely because that was what I had that was empty at the time when I bought the ink. It is very prone to nib creep but I never had any other issues at all and just flush it out every three or four fills. I wouldn't say that the pen was 'dedicated' in that way, just circumstances mean that I use that one. I don't see any reason to change things now.

CAG 1787, what do you think of the ink? Are you glad that you had it shipped back across the pond?

I have two bottles I think. Time to use it again, then! :-) This review made me feel nostalgia about this particular ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
