"Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" Patrick Henry

Although I'm not really a fan of Diamine inks and they're at the bottom half of my favourite ink makers, they have some gems worth trying. My types are: Red Dragon, Safari, Blue Velvet, Crimson, Orange, Pumpkin, Macassar (but you already have it).

I would like to buy at least one bottle of Diamine Shimmertastic ink but am also looking to get some more standard inks too. Which inks would best fill in the gaps in my current collection?

Grey, Merlot, Scarlet, Poppy Red, Oxblood, Dark Brown, Ancient Copper, Macassar, Rustic Brown, Grape, Amaranth, Salamander, Ultra Green, Kelly Green, Delamere Green, Imperial Purple, Blaze Orange, Teal, Steel Blue, Sunshine Yellow, Mediterranean Blue, Twilight, Havasu Turquoise, Bougainvillea (free sample), Prussian Blue (free sample).

I loved their Asa Blue, Sherwood Green, I note you have the Imperial Purple, loved that one. Stay away from the Emerald Green, don't know if I just got a bad bottle, but it is like no Emerald green that I have ever seen. Seems to write dry and has shades of olive or Khaki, dries to a dusty olive green. I was pleasantly surprised with the Ancient Copper. Haven't tried the oxblood yet, have it in a sample.

Asa Blue--wonderful especially in a wetter pen

Majestic Blue--gorgeous

Oxblood--in a wet pen this can be too saturated and look brown but in the right nib it is wonderful

Umber--hard to describe dark muddy mysterious greenish colour. Very elegant

Also like:

Sherwood Green (if you like green)

Chocolate Brown

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
