Oh hey, that looks actually really nice. Love the acid etching, the clip; the other design elements and the manufacturing quality look good too. Too bad it's kind pricey though. Free US shipping really seems a necessity here, but if one does not live in the US, well that's tough luck.

Still, this inspires me to look at retro51 a bit more closely in the future.

I wish them to be successful because I think the design is "Spot' on.

Hmmmm......Don't have a Retro 51 FP, though I do have a couple of the Rollerballs and a Pencil.

I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for sending the link!

I have just joined my FIRST Kickstarter & surely am happy to have done so in the hopes to receive such a "fun" pen. My dog friends will surely be jealous (if indeed this actually achieve's funding.)

As a dog lover, I love the design. Pewter finish and brass body definitely seem nice and should give the pen some nice weight in the hand.

I'm only reluctant to fund this because I've never tried Schmidt nibs and i'm not sure if their performance is up to par. If anyone can confirm they're decent I might just grab one.

Does anyone also know if it's possible to swap Schmidt nibs (in the nib unit) with another nib? I assume they're standard #5 or #6's.

I've bought two pens with Schmidt nibs: a Karas Kustoms INK with #5 F nib, and a Retro 51 Herringbone Tornado with a #6 sized B. Both very pleasant writers, though the INK ran a bit dry at first. I haven't tried it, but I think you could swap in a replacement nib if desired - just be aware that different manufacturers may have slight differences in curvature or wing span that can affect interchangeability!

Really love them.

However, they are expensive and the shipping price makes the overall price prohibitive.

Yep, add me to the 'international shipping kills this' crowd. It looks nice, but it seems pretty heavy at 32 grams (as you'd probably expect from a brass and pewter pen).

Still, never underestimate how much dog people will spend on anything dog related!

That's really cute!!! The weigh of the pen kills it for me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
