New Australian Made Fountain Pens Available For Review

My prototype pen has arrived - it's a reasonably hefty pen, but I'm pretty impressed with the way it looks and the way it writes. Will reserve all other comments, positive or negative, till I've given it a good test run - but many thanks to Kevin from JustWrite for the opportunity to try it out!

For everyone who didn't get a pen to test and put their hand up for some ink samples - they are all packed up and ready to go out in tomorrow's post.

They include one 6ml sample of each of the following from our Colours of Australia series: Barrier Reef Blue, Sydney Harbour Blue, Uluru Red, Black Stump Black and Daintree Green.

I hope you enjoy the ink samples !

Sure, I'll send them today. If any other pen reviewers would like some ink samples for review, please let me know.

Kevin,

Received the full set of bottle inks I recently purchased from you, a couple days ago. They are just fantastic inks!! Beautifully saturated colors and very well behaved. I couldn't be more pleased. Hope to buy the black leather Axiom when it becomes available. Just Write has hit one out of the park (as we say in USA) with these pens and inks. Props to you!

I've received aamples of the inks. They're rather nice and heavily saturated. One (BRB) has some flow issues, but I need to play with them more to write something reasonable.

It is very possible that some changes may be made following the reviews. But the Axiom was always destined to be a heavy pen and it's not likely we'll be changing the weight drastically.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with a heavy pen. Some people, e.g. those with large hands, prefer that. I am one: my favourite pens, and ones that I used regularly, are all high-end Italian pens that weight 60+ grams. This is the one I have inked right now (70+ gm): http://www.nibs.com/omas-arte-italiana-sterling-silver-limited-edition-vermeil.htm

One can have a range of heavy pens and a range of light pens, or one can have either and have people go elsewhere for the other.

Some of the people at my work who tried the Axiom were not put off by the weight, just the balance. As I said in my review (linky above) lightening the barrel finial would fix that, just as those of us who have Kaigelu 316s and replaced the metal finial with one of richardandtracy's acrylic one have found.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
