Pens And Stationery In Malta

Craiglea

Recommended Posts

I will be visiting Malta soon and wondered if there are any particularly good stationery shops that may have fountain pens too. I've visited in the past and was struck by the great range of unusual shops in Valleta.

I've searched the web but unearthed nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks in advance.

I lived in Malta for awhile. What you'll find is that many stationery stores will stock a wide range of products more than being specialists. Malta has good trading links with Italy, so expect to see Italian pens. My local stationery shop was in Ta' Xbiex (pronounced Tash Beesh) but you really have to roam around a bit. I used to buy art supplies from a wonderful little shop, so expect small, delightful, and prepare to be surprised (they had Maimeri paint from Italy, which is not widely sold).

I'm sure there are some Maltese on this list who can be more helpful.

Coffee is really good and I'd recommend Busy Bee, Msida, for the best cannoli outside Italy. I kid you not! So what I'd do is head to Busy Bee, order coffee/cannoli and pull out a pen and start talking to the locals. Tourists don't go to Busy Bee. Lovely! Also, try Guze (in the marina) for a meal, too.

Enjoy!

I was there few days in holiday 2 years ago.

The only shop I've seen in La Valletta was at the entrtance of the city from the square where all the bus arrive and depart.

From that square you pass the bridge, enter the city and after few hundred meters on the right side there is a small shop selling Campo Marzio pens and stationeries.

As you know Campo Marzio is an italian brand, but it only design his goods, he do not produce enything as far as i know.

Products are not too expansive, and some of them even attractive for desoign/color.

Thanks for the advice I’ll certainly look out for them and the advice about the best cannoli outside Italy is very welcome too! For me it’s the qassatat - I’m powerless to resist them!

As my wife is actually Maltese I'm not too bad at Maltese pronunciation although places such as 'Ix-Xquq' will always trouble me!

Thanks again to cobalt and fabri00

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
