M201 Bayou With A M600 Nib

Recommended Posts

Had decided to swap out the Italic nib on the m201 as it was too broad for my daily usage and I hate to see such a pretty pen sitting in the chest unused.

Found a spare m600 nib and decided to take the plunge to try it on the m201.

Would like to gather some feedbacks on this combination. From the pictures, is the nib a tad too big for the m201?

No resistance was seen in both capping and tighting the cap on the pen, so I am pretty sure the nib does fit nicely.

Edwin

In my opinion the larger M600 looks great in a M400 pen. I've used a M600 nib in my M450 with no problems at all... Just looks a lot better than the original nib!

This comes up from time to time, putting M6xx nibs in M2xx pens. The collar and feed are essentially the same as the M400 so it will fit an M200 body. Some M600 nibs work in that setting and some do not. The only way to find out is to try it out and if there is not enough clearance, you'll know quickly when the nib is damaged. I've seen the bad side of this. My personal philosophy is that no post-'97 M600 nibs should be used in M200/M400 sized pens but I'm a cautious sort by nature. Will some combos work, absolutely. To me though, it's not worth taking the plunge to find out. If your combo works, congrats. Do what makes you happy. It does look a tad long though in the photos that you provided. Beautiful coloring on that Bayou.

I'm also cautious and, like Sargetalon, wouldn't risk to do this.

But since it worked, hey, it's your pen and if you like it, that is what matters.

I put one of the old M250/M400 Medium monotone nibs in mine, which in my opinion are wonderful nibs and since they are the same color as the original, preserve the intended character of the pen.

By the way, the pattern of your Bayou looks much better than the pattern in mine.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
