Jules Verne (Deep Sea Blue) - De Atramentis

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer.

De Atramentis offers a variety of "traditional" fountain pen inks and a broad selection of special and scented inks. I believe they should get more attention as the quality od these fluids is very good and some colors are simply stunning.

Jules Verne (Deep Sea Blue) is reasonably saturated blue ink. It's well behaved and lubricates the nib nicely.

This is really nice. The water fastness is surprisingly good. I might have to pick up a bottle of this. This is my favourite family of blue, medium saturation and a true blue. If it shades anywhere I'd say it shades to a faint purple grey. Does it look that way to you?

The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards.

Thank you for this review. I just tried 6 US sources for this ink & finally was lucky at La Couronne du Comte! That makes the second addition I have made to the order that is "processing" which will include the Diamine "Brandy Dazzle." I appreciate your "bringing this ink to the table!"

Nice review and great blue. This is -- yes, as already said above -- one dark, full, rich blue with no black. Just can't get enough of this sort!

Checking my regular sites for availability.

Yeah, that's my problem. I have no discretionary funds at the moment, but this one is getting added to the list as a maybe. Hey, wait -- is that SHEEN I"m seeing?

I'm doomed I tell ya. Doomed....

I'm afraid it won't stop.

Run while you can.

While you still own a place to live and a decent bed and not a cellar full of inks.

Hi Visvamitra. Running is not an option. I always get caught. Always, 100%. I'm now digging an extension of the cellar. What have I gotten myself into!? Haha but I love this madness, nonetheless, and I suspect a lot of you do too.

Thanks Vis - I'm off to find a bicycle and a fish.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
