Daniel,

Is it more important to keep past grievances alive or to disseminate useful information? I feel it's the latter, continually bringing the grudge thread up suggests you think it's the former. Which is a shame, as this information is useful, particularly as no criminal action ocurred - otherwise I am sure you would have been the first to report it to both the site admins and the police. That being the case it serves no useful purpose to keep dragging up ancient history that is of little interest to anyone who couldn't give a damn about the spats between egos in the US pen world.

Regards

Richard.

Richard:

Are you speaking in your official capacity as a moderator, or as a regular member?

Daniel,

The two are difficult to entirely separate as I am one person. Sentences 1-3, mostly as a regular member. Sentence 4: with the official moderator hat on, FPN regards arguments between people off site as something that is irrelevant to FPN and we do not want such spill-over onto the site. Language & emphasis in sentence 4 reflects my wish as a moderator to emphasise the degree of importance of the 'background' that you referred to - it is utterly irrelevant to anyone outside the very small central core of the US pen community, is in the past, and does not need to be brought up again.

Regards,

Richard.

Note:

This topic is locked simply because a certain troll who has been banned from FPN years ago still manages to influence the behaviour of people here, and generate quarrels and tiffs, something this person delights in. I think FPN, and our membership, should simply rise above this, and not rekindle any fires which we should stand above as a community. Please do realize that getting people into arguments and getting them upset is exactly what this troll aims at, and has been doing for many years for his own, IMO sick, delight and pleasure.

Essentially, the person referred to downloaded all scanned manuals and other info from the PCA site, burnt these to CD or DVD, and started selling them, without referencing the PCA, and with the aim to hurt the PCA. This person then also disseminated the materials to a variety of other sites, helped unknowingly by a few people who thought to help others again.

We will discuss this with the PCA, and see if we can come up with a solution to reference these manuals and scans somehow doing justice to the work the PCA does and has done over the years.

Warm regards, Wim

Note 2:

The link has been changed to the official library link, where not only the Parker manuals can be obtained, for free, by anybody, but hundreds of other ones as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
