Inky T O D - Ever Forget What Ink Is In Which Pen? - Confessions And Contest

Have you ever done it? Inked up a pen, and forgotten what ink you have in it? Or inked up a bunch of pens (for whatever the reason) and forgotten which ink is in which pen? The other day, I wanted to compare Ink of the Witch, Sankodo Nishikisan and Ebony Purple (all three are black purples and sheen like crazy); so I filled 3 Karas Kustom Ink fountain pens with custom nibs. YEP, I have to refer to my cheat sheets to remember which pen has which ink.

The worst though --- I grabbed a cognac Pelikan M200 today. I usually fill it with orange, brown or amber. NOPE, today it's filled with a lovely green. I don't remember filling it. I have no recollection of why I put a green ink in a brown pen. I don't remember if I filled it from a sample or from a bottle. I feel really silly. How can I comment on the lovely ink if I don't know what ink I'm using?

So, I thought I'd share the fun. I'm going to post my letter. I'll give you my honest thoughts about this ink. Eventually, I'll find a little sheet of paper where I wrote down what ink I was using, or I'll remember what I did. The first person who guesses the ink correctly, will get a little prize from me.

Also, don't leave me hanging, tell me if you have done this too.

I would like to say... "THAT NEVER HAPPENS TO ME"....lol.. but it does.

I have a VERY good excuse thou. I tend to use very similar hues (gold-murky browns-murky greens-dark reds)... and I tend to have 15 pens inked up at any time, so it easy to forget which one is this or that. I usually have ONE blue, so that one is easy to remember.

Your green... if you have gone to the Pelikan hubs, I would say that is Edelstain Jade Green... on my screen it looks almost spot on.

Hmm... That's hard to guess... Anyway I haven't had a similar experience yet. Everytime I fill up a pen I'd write down the ink name in my ink journal right away. In that case I can always resort to my ink journal if I can't remember what ink it is.

The point is that you do forget too. I always write down in my spreadsheet, so I can check if I forget (which I do at times). My spreadsheet is on google drive.. so I can access it from my iPhone if necessary... ;)

Ha. I put little stickers on the cartridge (or lids if piston fillers) of the pens who aren't "married" to a particular ink.

I'm guessing Cult Pens Deep Dark Green. ?

Looks like Diamine Sherwood green/ Chesterfield Erinite???

Have never forgotten what ink is in my pens simply because it does not matter to me what ink is in my pens!! However, as I have to use either blue or black ink at work I just carry two VP's inked up with each.

Now that I have figured out what it is.... I thought it was one of my Diamines. It is not.

LOL that you don't care about which ink. Would you believe, I'm addicted to color?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
