I was wondering if any 'new old stock' of these pens is still available. I've tried eBay and Amazon, Classic and FP hospital - hoping to hear something, but simply no luck. Would love to hear from you if anyone has a clue about this.

Many thanks -

You can try Regina Martini. She does have a M400 "near mint" right now

I asked her what "near mint" was and she told me that it was "a pen never used but, which due to the time it has been on the shelf, it does not look as a pen that came out of the factory last week". Usually she sends the pens without box and papers. In the end my wife bought a slightly used from her, and she is happy.

You should keep looking at eBay. I bought my brand new M800, also from Regina, about 5 months ago in her eBay store. From time to time one shows up in her store (and also some other vendors).

You do see NOS examples of both pop up on eBay from time to time, the M800 a bit more so than the M400. Definitely out there though if you have patience and keep your eyes open. Retina's site is a great resource. Also check out Rolf Thiel's eBay store, missing-pen.de. Good luck with your search.

If it does not have to be new, consider a classic pen form someone such as Mr. Rick Propas. I think those older tortoise 400's are fantastic, the one I have is have a really terrific writier, and with a pen from Mr. Propas you get somethng that the seller will stand behind.

  • 2 weeks later...

What do you want in a nib, a modern post 97 nail-800? Real wonderful great regular flex '89-90....or almost as nice '91-97 regular flex. There is a tad of difference between the W. Germany and Germany nibs...also for the 400's.

A modern semi-nail post '97 fat and blobby M400? Smooth and blobby.

A true to size, true regular 14 K regular flex '80's-97 M400, a nib as springy as a steel 200.

or a semi or maxi-semi-flex '50-65 400,400n,400nn (medium-large)? :notworthy1:

I have two maxi-semi-flex, 500&400nn, and two nice semi-flex 400&400n.

You do have to talk to a seller who knows the difference between semi-flex and maxi-semi-flex...or take the gamble blind.

Don't do that if you already have a semi-flex 140 and want a tad more ease of flex, of a maxi-semi-flex. Out side the semi-nail H and the nail's nail D, the 140's are all semi-flex..

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
