Overjoyed - Singapore, My Experience

Hello,

I was visiting Singapore last week and took some time to hop over to a new store (for me anyway) called "Overjoyed". I was very pleasantly surprised with what I found!

Down in the basement of the aging and somewhat run-down Golden Wall Centre, which is located at the corner of Albert and Short street, is a breath of fresh air... Overjoyed is a beautiful shop with all kinds of arts and crafts supplies. There is a good collection of products for the Fountain Pen lover too; pens, paper, notebooks, ink, etc. Have a look at the Overjoyed Web site (link below) to get the full story.

The staff at Overjoyed was knowledgeable, cheerful and more than happy to help with any question I had. I purchased a couple of notebooks (Rhodia and Paperblanks), a bottle of Diamine Ancient Copper, and two TWSBI ECO pens (black 1.1mm stub and white M-nib).

By the way, for you computer and electronics buffs, Overjoyed is within walking distance to Sim Lim Square and Sim Lim Tower.

Disclosure: I am not affiliated with Overjoyed - just a happy customer.

Hello!

I hope you enjoyed your stay in Singapore!

Indeed, Overjoyed used to be the only place in Singapore where you could get Rhodia and Clairefontaine. (Rhodia is since now available in Kinokuniya and NBC). I like the place, it's warm and nice and cosy.

Plus it's quite near (within 1km me thinks) of a beloved pen store Fook Hing, situated at Bras Basah Complex.

Thanks for visiting Singapore and I hope we have left you with a good impression! If the reception extended to you was not up to your expectation, kindly bear with us!

We hope to see you again in Singapore (plus, maybe, you could come for our pen meets if you happen to be in the area!)

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

@Lord Epic,

Do you work at Overjoyed? If so, we may have met during my visit. No matter if-not, and thank you for the additional Singapore info by the way. I did meet the folks at Fook-Hing Trading also during my visit. Danny at Phua at Fook-Hing, will hopefully help me to procure a fairly hard-to-find Pilot pen in Singapore by my next visit in four to six weeks. I currently live in Jakarta. So not too far as the planes fly. Cheers, David

Hi David,

Nope I don't work there, but I thought being a Singaporean, I should be promoting a positive image of my country :D Being small, every tourist dollar count!

Danny's a great guy, I love spending time at Fook Hing (although, my wallet probably hates me :P )

Perhaps when you next come, you can join us for pen meets! Hope to see you around locally soon!

Cheers, and have a good day,

LE

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
