Semikolon Mucho A5 Notebooks In Aus

I had a few moments to spare, so, as one does, I dropped in to OfficeWorks at Campbelltown to see if they had anything interesting and fount a new range of Stationery - Semikolon.

One particular item stood out - an A5 notebook with 3 types of pages - Ruled, Grid and Plain - for $10.

It is not a gracile note book. It is a honking great notebook that you won't lose on your desk. It will not fit in your handbag or bumbag easily. It has 165 pages, but is over an inch thick, with a very large spiral hinge binding.

It has an elastic closure, but again, it is not a thin, delicate one, it is an inch wide and very tight.

The Ruled pages have a ruling of 1 cm, instead of the usual 7 or 8 mm, ideal for the expansively flourishing writer. The grid is the standard 5 mm, and the plain, is, well, plain. The pages are all micro-perforated for easy removal. Each section is separated by a translucent plastic separator, and there are two plastic pockets at the back.

The wrapper declares the paper to be "higher quality", and it is. I tried a wide range of inks and pens, and only got two to bleed through - Baystate Blue and Everflo True Blue - in a wet dip nib. There was no feathering with any of the inks. This is excellent paper, but its beige colour may put some users off.

Pricing - in Aus. AU$9.99 - on Amazon US US$18.99

For once Australia wins out!

Lucky you.... I haven't had much luck with Semikolon. I believe where is made has a lot to do with quality.

The ones I have found here were all made in Taiwan. No joy... :(

Semikolon has been around in my local Officeworks for a few years and used to be sold in Myer. I think it's still sold in David Jones. As Cyber6 mentioned, the paper quality can vary. I had a B5 book of 200+ pages which was excellent and a thinner A4 book that was rubbish. Semikolon stationery is usually expensive, so $9.99 is a bargain, well done!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
