Franklin-Christoph Mod.66 with Masuyama medium cursive-italic.  I saw they had the Emerald color back in stock and thought, hey, why not?

Very Nice!

I am always deterred by single item buying due to shipping costs... in your case the shipping cost is double the item price... !

:yikes:

Well, fortunately, in my case the shipping was free.  And even better, the sac appears to still be good -- when I went to test the pen a couple of days ago there was ink coming out of the feed when I dipped it in water.  So I'm now writing with whatever blue was in the pen before I got it (nice medium blue, although of course now diluted with distilled water).  And while the nib is not exactly a wet noodle, there is definitely some flex there.  I'd have preferred a 9048 nib, of course (because of the tipping on the 9xxx series nibs -- but recent eBay listings for the nib unit alone are for more than I want to pay.  AND for more than I paid for the entire pen!

I'm actually considering contacting the seller again, to ask if he knows what ink was in the pen --  because I like the color....

Pilot Kakuno, actually. I never bought one simply because I didn't think I'd have a use for it. And the writing characteristics of those Pilot Super Quality nibs were already well-known to me, so curiosity was lacking.

Then I visited a bookstore and saw that they were selling Kakunos at RM28 each (that's approximately US$ 7 ). Instantly bought one just for fun.

Result? Well, the nib falls squarely into the "so-consistent-it's-boring" category, but it really is very reliable. And it takes a CON-70, which is nice. Now it's my grab-and-go ink-bar, always stuffed into various side pockets in bags and folders, CON-70 filled with whatever ink strikes my fancy. Turns out it's pretty useful in that niche.

Also: cute smiley face. Who could argue with that? :)

A couple of Esterbrook J series pens. A blue transitional in January and a copper about 10 days ago.

I forgot the Parker 45 with Accountant nib that was just before these two.

Acquired two pens since then (August 2017) which was a Pelikan 140 (35th Anniversary in September) from my wife, and a M200 Brown Marbled in December 2017 for Christmas. I wouldn't really call either of those impulse buys though. I have wanted a 140 for several years, and the timing was finally right and I was going to get a pen for Christmas anyway. So the choice of pen may have been impulsive, but not the decision to buy a pen.

But if I win an auction I am presently working on, that will be an impulse purchase.

I would say the most recent was the M200 grey/magenta marbled. Someone had started a thread about them, I went on ebay, one vendor had 2 NOS and I thought, "heck, why not?"

Was browsing Papier Plume today for inks and stumbled on this,

a Faggionato - PKS - Fountain Pen - Translucent Tortoise-1. In the

cart it went. Totally an impulse buy.

Love those. So...unusual. I like the marbled pens- have two. A blue W Germany pen and the brown.

My last was a waterman 52v flex fountain pen. I had debated on the waterman Thorobred for weeks on ebay before pulling the trigger, then saw the 52 and after hearing how much everyone loved them decided "lets get this one too" and added it to the cart. I love my thorobred but may be rehoming the 52v but every time I go to return it, it somehow does not get put in the mailbox so something's telling me to keep it. lol. Ah well.  Its just a lot of fun to use even if it rarely gets the love it deserves.

My most recent FP impulse-purchase was my most recent FP purchase, a $5 FP I found at Daiso branded as "Rosso Bianco" …

… that turned out to be a Jinhao x750.  I'd never seen one before, up close.

Went into Fook Hing's in Singapore (wonderful place by the way) with a budget in mind........trebled it after spying the Visconti Medici and Pelikan Ocean Swirl and not being able to decide between them and therefore bought both.

A Merz + Krell Pelikan 120. From the 1970s. Pelikan has recently re-issued (so to speak) the 1950s version of the 120 at a considerably higher price than the original, and there has been at least a small amount of approval of this post-modern version.

While I was thinking about the rationality of buying one, I came upon a very newish M + K 120 at a price substantially lower than even the modest prices these pens routinely command. How far can I go wrong? I asked myself, and bought the pen. Which has given satisfaction.

A Blueberry Sailor Pro Gear Slim.

I was completing my Christmas shopping at Jetpens and about to checkout when I noticed a "you might like" ad at the bottom of the page. The Blueberry had been in my Wish List for months, but always out of stock. It was a weak moment. It also said they only had two in stock. FOMO is dangerous. And I was already paying the shipping with the other things I was buying for the people on my Christmas list. That pen hit my cart so fast I couldn't have even blinked, then completed the purchase before I had a chance to second guess it. I justified it afterwards by saying it was to be my Christmas present.

It's all about the greys...

After thinking about the small collection sold last year, in the mail are a 700R, 580 AL and a Metropolitan. No longer in the market for MB or Pelicans. There is one that has caught my eye and probably will be in the mail next month: Conid Bulkfiller. You know how you try to fight off a purchase but loose?
